Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 6ish & did some general stretching. Had a slice of bread with peanut butter as well as a glass of water before heading off to the event. Got to race, and registered. Also had a bananna and a gel about 20 minutes b4 start.
Event warmup:

Ran about .5 mile warmup before the race. Met up with DJDavey and chatted it up. He was so kind to show Colleen and I his fine tri-mobile equipped with hanging donkey from the rear view mirror....sweet.

Comments:

I didn't have much of a goal for this race other than to finish somewhere close to 2 hours. Wanted to take it slow so that I still had energy for the bike ride following the run.

Stuck to plan or lack thereof pretty well. I actually did start out a bit too fast for the first couple of miles (which is unlike me), but then settled into a comfy, relaxing pace for the rest of the journey. I took gel at 50 & 95 and had water at the first station and gatorade at the second. Also water again on the third and final.

The race ended up being a good training run and I always like running new routes for the change of scenery. This is a great race to kick off the season.

What would you do differently?:

Could have definitely shed a layer by about mile 7 as the sun was getting warm and temps were a bit hotter than I expected. Other mistake was not getting enough liquids in me. Kind of my fault as I toyed with using my water belt but made the last minute decision to travel light and leave it in the car. Made the dumb assumption that would be plenty of water stations on the course. Some day I'll learn!
Post race
Warm down:

None. Drank a cup of water & then jumped into the car to head home to get biking stuff.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fluid intake & dressed a bit too warm for the sunny and unseasonably warm temps.

Event comments:

Good race & great route along the lake. Definitely a "made for" runners kind of race. Only negative is that there could have been a few more water stations and more than one Gatorade station....but for $13, I can't really complain.

Performance:
Course: Great course on Oak Leaf trail with much of the course running directly adjacent to Lake Michigan (nice views). Paved trail was really quite nice with some minor rolling hills.
