Event warmup:

1.5 mi jog/dynamic stretch
Swim
  • 27m 41s
  • 1800 meters
  • 01m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Finished 4th in my wave. Top three got away from me early and lost them after we caught previous waves. For my first Olympic Tri I was pretty upset at myself for not finding a draft and that the swim was actually longer than 1500 M. I have amended my results.
What would you do differently?:

Find a draft early. I need more work navigating open water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Not my best T1. Wetsuit caught a little and it was frustrating. My goal was to have this one under 2:30. Lost a lot of my drink running the bike out due to my awesome aero water bottle.
After a couple failed atempts to get my feet in the shoes, I decided to wait to get to the bridge and slip them on.
What would you do differently?:

Have a plan for taking off wetsuit.
Have a plan for when to slip into shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 17s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 23.56 mile/hr
Comments:

Pleased with my overall pace, although I think I took the first two laps a little too hard. Started to fade towards the end. Went back and forth with top female last lap who put on a clinic on how to corner. Very impressive.
What would you do differently?:

Corner a little faster and smarter. Spin up hills to save legs.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Started a little tricky when I thought I could stretch my legs with my feet out. Almost ate it coming into dismount. Fine after that. Got shoes on quick.
What would you do differently?:

Stretch quickly before taking feet out.
Run
  • 46m
  • 6.61 miles
  • 06m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Was most nervous about the run leg and not particulary pleased that it too was also longer than advertised. Got a horrible cramp just below sternum after two miles. Probably due to poor digestion of my two gels on the bike leg. Recovered after about mile 4 and pulled back competitors to finish strong.
What would you do differently?:

Take water with gels instead of Cytomax. Hard to digest all that stuff with accelerated heart rate. Have been working on my run a lot though, so I am pleased with my performance.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank everything I could find. It was hot. Didn't feel like running a cool down or stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and extended course distance.

Event comments:

Bike leg is very crowded and dangerous. Had to ride left most of the time and sometimes pass right because people were all over. Very well organized, but only avg. rating due to unknown distances. How does that happen?

Course: 2 laps of downtown running. Most people I talked to after with GPS watches got similar distances of over 6.6 mi. Rumored the course had to be shifted up a block due to construction. Why did we run so far up Lee Barton Rd. then? I have amended my results.
