Run
Comments: The first run segment is always fun. It starts out flat and soon you come to a downhill. Your feeling good, your relaxed. You wonder how hard you should push it. There is a whole lot of racing left. There were little sections where you have to run over cobble stone roads and walkways. I was careful to avoid tripping. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Since it was suppose to rain, I had my sneakers in a bad to keep them dry. Wasted some time finding my way out of a plastic bag. Of course it did not rain anyway. What would you do differently?: Not sure but something. I did see some people with a plastic box. Maybe thats an idea. Bike
Comments: The course was well marked. The lanes were wide. 3 people were able ride side by side and some were passing like that. You had to do 3 loops around course. I just had to make sure I can count up to 3. The biggest problem that I saw were the bridge gaps. People were getting flats left and right riding over them. And we had to cross that bridge 3 times per lap. I saw so many people walking their bikes. The course was technical and lots of fun. Lots of steady climbs and downhill excitement. My left calf started cramping half way through the course and my back was also getting sore. I tried to stretch them on the downhills. Kinda helped. But overall I was not happy with my performance. I was slugging. What would you do differently?: Work on stretching, strengthening or something with my back Transition 2
Comments: From he dismount area to the bikes, you had to go downhill on this concrete path. Because I am wearing my bike shoes, I had to slowly shuffle down to avoid slipping. My transition was OK. Just need to get faster. By this time I was wondering where was this rain that was had a 100% change of happening. Not that I was complaining. Its just that I always felt that the weather predicting swamis always had a way out. As long as they give a percent chance that is less than 100%, they can say that the unlike thing to happen can still happen. But in this case, they went out on a limb and said 100%. What would you do differently?: Learn to dismount without my cleats. Run
Comments: As usual, my legs felt like cement blocks. But it usually feels better after a mile. But Noooooo. It never went away and I was slugging. Of course there was a hill at the very end. As a mind game, I focus on the person ahead of me and attempt to catch up to and pass. Towards the end, my legs would have none of that. What would you do differently?: Get faster. Post race
Warm down: Sucked down a gatorade. Got some grub and chatted with some people and cheered the incoming runners on. Event comments: I'm glad to have experienced it before it went off to Arizona. Last updated: 2010-04-06 12:00 AM

Got to Richmond Saturday to check-in the bike. Glad to have gotten there a little earlier (for a change)because by the time I left there, there was a line of people with their bikes. But the line was moving along. Rain was expected that night so I covered the bike's seat and armrests. Did not want to look like I pee-ed myself after the ride. Heck with the bearings and chain.
Watched this ghost movie where this guy was complaining that his neck was feeling tight and heavy. He later discovered that this female ghost was sitting on his shoulders. Strange flick. Got up Sunday at 5am. Actually slept pretty good. Did not toss and turn all night like I've done before because I was so pumped. Had a bagel with peanut butter. Off to the races.
Got up early, had a PBonB (peanut butter on bagel), checked the internet for the day's weather. It said that the chance of rain was 100% by 9 am. So I was ready for a wet one. Given all the time I had, I still ended up rushing to the start. Got there with 25 mins to spare. Did a quick jog around the building and stretched a little. Had a GU. Chit chatted with some people. Everyone was cool and friendly. Then.....HOOOOOOOONK!!!!!
