  • Comments: My first Championship race! Excellent! The run & bike courses were excellent too. 1200 athletes registered for this race; twenty in my age group. Four registered in my age group were no shows and one athlete did not finish. 75 athletes DNF and 17 were DQ (I think for cheating on the bike course). The first 12 in my age group automatically qualify for Worlds in Sept. Me, finishing at 13, am first on the roll down list to be called if someone in the top twelve elects not to go to Worlds; got my fingers crossed that I will get the call to go to Worlds. Here is a link to a USAT YouTube video of the race http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PngD1vhCf-U

  • Comments: Organization was pretty good and volunteers were just super! Lots of goodies (shwag) to go along with the race made for a nice consolation. The open, rolling transition concept worked well and perhaps should be done for larger tris too. This concept kept activity in the transition to a minimum while emptying and filling from one part of it to another as later waves arrived to drop off stuff. This way there wasn't a large throng of folks all arriving at the same time with the folks in later waves waiting around for hours. I was disappointed in the Expo as I thought for National event, this should've been in a building with lots more exhibitors. Eagleman had much more. The shwag was terrific for the price - backbag, running hat, technical T, and beer glass for finishing! The after race party was great with some good food by Chipolte Mexican restaurant. Good music with a band starting up, but didn't stay for that. The gear bag dropoff was a good idea and kept gear from piling up in

  • Comments: There were LOTS of volunteers and I greatly appreciate all the support. The course was very well marked. The only thing I would have liked would be aid stations for the bike.

  • Comments: The organization of the race was great, racks were even marked with letters making it very easy in transition. Volunteers were great. I wish they would have adjusted the wave time schedule when the temps were predicted so high - with 30 minutes between waves there was plenty of adjustment time. More water on the course, at least adding one station on the bike, would have been smart based on the temperature. The schwag included with our entry fee was unbeatable - tri bag, shirt, hat, pint glass - all for $65! I would do this race again - I probably will next year - but I will be praying for average temps, instead of near-record breaking temps.

  • Comments: The race was fun and the course was well setup and the volunteers and police did a great job. This race was run by USAT since it was a National Championship. Now it usually is not 95 degrees in April in Richmond, but they needed to adapt a little more to provide more shade and additional water on the bike. All in all it was fun, but racing in weather 30 degrees warmer then you train in is quite rough. Pros: Nice People, All roads of race closed, great price, great swag Cons: Bad start times, runs not correct length, needed to adapt to have more water due to the heat (especially on the bike)

  • Comments: I am very pleased with how I did. I went into this race expecting to do awful. I haven't been riding much all winter and just started doing some run training. I was especially pleased with my cycling today- I think with a couple months of training, this is going to be a good year:)
