Swim
Comments: Swim was fun. Purposely put myself towards the middle right of the group so that I could get more experience swimming in a group (vs. last tri where I started back right) Was a good experience and good swim. Had to swim around a few people, drafted one for a bit and sighted well. First buoy was in the sun so looked used what you could briefly make out from the house that was behind it to navigate. Went well. Second/thrid buoys you could see from a mile a way. They were huge, so no problems there. Caught up to at least 1 person from the wave before me so that was cool. Overall happy with the swim, it's come a LONG way since my first tri 2 months a go. What would you do differently?: I think I rounded the 2nd buoy wide and diddn't cut back enough to the 3rd bouy. Noticed I was on track to pass it wide right (you are supposed to exit it on the left) so probably lost some time there. Overall still happy with the swim Transition 1
Comments: Amazing how fast your brain goes on pause in transition. I actually moved my helmet/glasses off my shoes to put my shoes on. Rather than put the helmet/glasses on and then focus on my shoes. Didn't cost me a ton of time but still. What would you do differently?: Hustled a bit more getting the wetsuit off, maybe not bothered to try to strike up a conversation while changing.... Again, brain pause. Bike
Comments: So this race was largely a prep for my Oly and to a lesser degree a way to test out some things for next years HIMs. On the HIM side I wanted to see if my HEED affected me when my HR was racing and I was exerting myself to a high degree. I figured, although much shorer than a HIM, the hills may be a good way to see how well I tolerate HEED under stress. I'd say it went fine (again I realize MUCH more testing over longer conditions is needed). Also tested out the new clothes under the wetsuit for my oly. Went just fine Finally a comment about the bike itself. It was cool, got to >40mph on the big downhill... The long uphill climb was fun, held myself back more than I probably should have, but still a decent effort What would you do differently?: gone a little harder in the climb, certainly harder in the early flat/rolling hills Transition 2
Comments: T2 was good, happy w/ the result. Absolutely want tri shoes so I can bike sockless (current MTB shoes aren't comfrotable w/o socks). My socks were soaking when I put them in my running shoes What would you do differently?: not sure.. Run
Comments: YESSSS... Super happy w/ this run given both the hills (on the bike and run) and frankly my running skills at this point. Found someone to pace for the first 1/2 of the run then passed her in the hills, actually passed several people in the hills so that was a good feeling. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
