Swim
Comments: I tried to go out hard and fast - more successful than I have in the past which was cool, then after rounding the first buoy I decided to lean right and stay out of the churning waters. I must be getting pretty comfortable because I'm usually fidgeting with my watch in the water before the gun and today I TOTALLY forgot to start the dang thing. What would you do differently?: Line up closer to the front Transition 1
Comments: I'm typically pretty comfortable in transition and today was a typical day - other than cheering on Whitney. Bike
Comments: This was a fun bike - easy rollers with a couple of super fast stretches of slight decline. Had a gel about halfway thru and really enjoyed my new aero-water bottle. Not having to reach down and replace a bottle in the cage is awesome! I really focused on pushing the pace and not worrying about the run (I'm saving that worry for the 13.1 next weekend). What would you do differently?: based on my lack of pre-race nutrition I'd say take a gel earlier on the ride. i felt great after the one at the halfway point - i could really feel the sugar rush; could have used that earlier on! Transition 2
Comments: quick change of shoes, hat on, and away we go! all to the tune of the Smurfs... don't ask why Run
Comments: This felt way slower than the results so that's a good thing. My toes fall asleep on the bike so it took a few for them to come back to life. Just before mile 2 Whitney caught up and passed me - it was fun to have a friend for a moment. Post race
Warm down: banana, orange, apple juice and Mix1 - OH and a professional stretch - yee haa Event comments: the swim start was fine - a couple of minutes late but that was fine with me. The bike course was great; traffic was backed up as I returned to the park so that slowed me down. The run is where the race fell apart for me, I could have VERY easily missed the first turn! There wasn't a volunteer or paint on the street like there was for the bike. Then as I was approaching the 'mile 2' sign a race person packed it up... I was like "ok, should i pack it up, too? did i miss the cut off!?" I wasn't last but I sure felt bad about my speed for a minute. I chalk it up to the 'inaugural race' but hope it improves for the future. Last updated: 2010-04-15 12:00 AM

The only thing routine about my routine is opening my eyes. Today I was very happy that i was 100% packed before I went to bed. I wouldn't be RedSoxChick if I didn't go to a home game the night before a race! So with my Guinness and Peanut pre-race meal behind me I munched on a bagel with butter and drank a Mix1 - 4am is MIGHTY EARLY. I arrived at my friend Michael's for coffee and then caravaned down with Whitney + Chris. I think the Tri gods were watching because I got a primo parking spot and unloaded my bike and team tent.
We were running a bit behind schedule so there wasn't much time for warm-up activities. Set-up transition, slipped into wetsuit and got a quick splash before the gun went off.
