Swim
Comments: First beach start for me. Things crowded at first. Some tool grabbed my ankle and pulled himself forward off of me as we headed toward the finish. He loosened my timing chip, so I had to slow a little bit to make sure I didn't lose it. What would you do differently?: Happy with this portion. Kept to the inside and held back. Transition 1
Comments: Took time and didn't rush. A guy ran into me right after the mount line and knocked my bottle holder loose. What would you do differently?: hurry up Bike
Comments: Lost bottle & holder with 450 calories of nutrition right at the entrance to the park. I also had to reattach my bike number since it was about to come off after the bottle holder came off. I actually enjoyed the course until mile 48 when the head wind got the best of me. I kept my HR at 140 for most of the ride, which turned out to be a good thing with the last 10 miles being difficult. Back and rear were hurting for the last 10 miles. What would you do differently?: Two to three more long rides with hills. I had nothing left for the run. Transition 2
Comments: Had to stop and use bathroom, but that was a given. What would you do differently?: Be faster Run
Comments: This was a terrible run for me. I had nothing left after the bike and I was glad to finish since I didn't know if I could after .5 miles into the run. Any attempt to get in a rhythm was met with my quad and hamstrings tightening up. Drank lots of water/infinit and kept cool with ice down my shirt. What would you do differently?: I ran several times in middle afternoon heat to get ready for this. The heat didn't get to me. It was more of the totality of the race. Needed to do bricks of 40 miles of bike and 8 miles of running. Post race
Warm down: Ate some watermelon and got my stuff to go home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Work and selling old house/buying new house all while trying to train for this race Event comments: The aid stations were plentiful. Overall the race ran smoothly. I was hoping for some pizza or something at the end. Maybe it was all gone by the time I finished...This course is tough. I would not recommend for as someone's first HIM. The hills, wind, and heat make for a fierce combination of things to battle. I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment, but my time was somewhat disappointing. Last updated: 2010-04-19 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:15 and had usual bagel,PB, and oj. Buddy picked me up at 5am at the hotel and headed to BSL. Long line of cars once inside park, so I got to transition with just enough time to set up, use the bathroom, and put wetsuit on.
Swim and rode bike a little day before.
