Pre-race routine:

Visualization, deep breathing.
Event warmup:

Some stretching.
Swim

  • 547 yards

Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No T1 as swim was cancelled.
Bike
  • 52m 9s
  • 12 miles
  • 13.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed a little too hard on the bike - winds were strong and I was determined to average 15mph, which I did not.
What would you do differently?:

Given that there was such a strong wind, I would have saved my legs a little more for the run.
Transition 2
  • 03m 45s
Comments:

What the heck was I doing for 3:45 in T2?!? I went as fast as I could! I didn't even tape my left foot for the run.
What would you do differently?:

I'm going to have to think about this. I gu'd and hydrated before T2, so I'm at a loss. Maybe I didn't run fast enough to the run start?
Run
  • 44m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I think my sucky run time reflects my lack of aerobic base in running, as well as my weight issues. This is the sport that I will have to work the hardest on improving, and I doubt that I can improve very much until I drop a significant amount of weight. Time for Weight Watchers....
What would you do differently?:

Can't really say - I had trained as instructed by the BT training programs. I think that my number one priority is losing weight. Next is hire a running coach and start doing some drills.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, walked around venue to loosen legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight. Inexperience. Poor aerobic base/conditioning.

Event comments:

I may consider doing this race again - especially since the swim was cancelled. I wanted to swim in the ocean badly.

HR maxed-out at beginning of run. Slowed to a walk for 2-3 minutes after about 10 minutes of running - this helped with HR a LOT. Had to repeat the walk two more times, but for shorter periods each time. With one mile left my HR FINALLY settled-down and I was able to run faster.
Course: Flat course winding through Moody Gardens. No shade. A decent breeze.
