Swim
Comments: Somehow got a little off course coming in from the last bouy, but not too much time lost. Didn't see anyone pass me. Had plenty of room with time trial start. Passed lots of people. My time estimate was a little high so I probably was swimming with some slower folks. Never really cought my breath though. Transition 1
Comments: Passed lots of folks who didn't have their shoes already clipped on bike. They should really learn this. I was 1st in my age group and 7th overall on T1 despite being racked in the farthest back corner. I love saving time like this. What would you do differently?: Not be racked in the back due to over estimating swim time. Bike
Comments: Only issue was head wind on the way back, but the tailwind on the way out helped me keep around 24mph to get average up pretty good. New aero bottle was great. Pushed hard the whole way. Home field advantage was enjoyed, having just run this course last Saturday and know all the potholes to avoid, and there are lots. What would you do differently?: Have a $12000 bike to use next time! Transition 2
Comments: Got one shoe tongue a little stuck, cost about 5 seconds, 4th in age group. Grabbed running shirt and put on after getting out on course which worked great for me. Happy with time, but legs didn't work too well after fast bike time. Run
Comments: Hot. Got murdered on run. Lots of walking and listening to that voice that kept saying "lie down and take a nap, it's ok". This run was the hardest physical activity I have ever undertaken. So humid and hot. Poured several cups of water over head and body and each station but still hot. Shoes were soaked and got lots of blisters. Did finish last .9 miles running and was able to sprint last 2/10s to finish. Collapsed and took at least 15 minutes to cool down and not be delirious. What would you do differently?: Not do it if weather forecast is for 109 degree heat index. Post race
Warm down: Many cups of cold water over head and down mouth. Ice packs on neck. Still took forever to recover. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and Humidity and fatigue at beginning of run. I guess it was the bike, but my legs did feel a bit like I haven't slept well the night before. Event comments: Well organized and good after event. Nice to have a stage and a real P.A. system at one of these where you can actually hear the results. Giving away two tri bikes was nice too.
