  • Comments: Team Magic always does a great job and can't beat the post race festivities at The Hangout. This was the last of 3 pretty crappy races through the Summer. Still won AG but just not very sharp during the Summer

  • Comments: I always enjoy this race and the Hangout on the Gulf is an awesome venue. Having done this race several years it seems like Team Magic was a little less organized during packet pick up and the post race meal of chili and chips is a big step back from the buffet they served in the past. Can't complain about the cold drinks though. Team Magic always does a good job and the ceremony for awards/door prizes is always fun. Will be back

  • Comments: The good news is ever after I added an extra .70 to my bike ride I still managed to PR by 6 minutes. The only complaints I have are: 1. Put a volunteer at the 2nd bike turn around. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere and the sign is pretty small and in the middle of the road. 2. There is a super sprint race that starts before the oly. They should start the oly first so we can get to the run before it's 100 degrees out. The super sprint starts at 7 but my swim didn't start until around 7:35-7:40.

  • Comments: Very well organized and fun race. There were plenty of volunteers, police, and aid stations, and I would definitely recommend Team Magic races for anyone interested racing in Alabama or Tennessee. I also got a very cool plaque for winning my division, a tub of Hammer Heed, and a beach bag that I won in the raffle.

  • Comments: Well organized and good after event. Nice to have a stage and a real P.A. system at one of these where you can actually hear the results. Giving away two tri bikes was nice too.

  • Comments: Other than the insane weather conditions, this was a good race. I put in great swim and bike splits. I can't be too upset about the run. It really wasn't a fitness issue - I simply have a very hard time in those conditions. And I managed to sneak on the podium by snagging 3rd in AG. Nothing wrong with that!

  • Comments: Good race all around. Only problem was no water/fluid at mile 2/5. Given the heat it would have been a good idea. Well run.

  • Comments: As usual top notch job by Team Magic. Moved the race a mile down the beach and added a mini race. Tripled the attendence from the first 2 years. Post race was at The Hangout, beach restaurant and beer. They had food and plenty of beer. First time I ever won first in a triathlon event.

  • Comments: Great race. A lot of traffic on an open course was difficult, but I don't see a way they could have avoided it.

  • Comments: I really don't like to race this close to a half ironman but you gotta race your home course so I did it. Well run event. Swim cancellation was the right call. They improvised well and it was a fun day. Although a small race, the level of competition was very strong. It was a state championship and a Best of the USA race. The post race party was significantly better than last year. Marcy and Frank both got AG awards. Met MKinnick who smoked the course and was 1st overall beginner.

  • Comments: Team-Magic always puts on a good race. This is one that I would do next year. The ocean water temperature was perfect. I am really pleased that I crushed my goal of breaking 3 hours. Following the training plan I downloaded made all the difference in the world. This and the encouragement I got from my blog mates really helped.

  • Comments: After the race I spent some time with Ken and Frank. Two genuinely good peeps that represent the sport well. I saw Marcy (Ken's wife) on the run course but officially meet her. Ken probably know more about my training that anyone else due to the BT boards/logs here. Good to finally meet him. This was a short Olympic distance which was *just* right for my fitness level (and non-existent swim training). The race was well run and I think there was more support/volunteers per racer than at any race I have ever been too which includes Memphis in May and Rivercites. Although I came in 10 out of 11 it was really a good race for me. The standing took the beginners out of the AG'ers and couple that with the level of athlete that attempt the Olympic distance and I finished about where I should have. If you look at the overall standings I'm 104 out of 186 (but I counted by hand and am not doing it again :) ). My transitions were clean and fast. I *maybe* could have shaved 60 seconds

  • Comments: This is a very well put together race. Team Magic did a great job. The course was on the easy side today, but it could be alot harder depending on waves/wind. GREAT RACE

  • Comments: Best first time event I have ever done and maybe the most organized event I have ever done. They did alot of things right. The course, the race officials, draft marshalls, volunteers, awards, et al. Only complaints, no beer - state park doesn't allow it. I think the swim time may have been off by 1 minute, but maybe i screwed up. Probably should have had one more water station on the run. It was probably the hottest day of the year here. I also finally met one of my longtime bt buddies, biseman. Enjoyed a few beers in the parking lot with him. One of our house guest, Sheri won her age group but no other awards in the group. I think this race is destined to grow.
