Pre-race routine:

Woke up with nervous energey, ate a bowl of expensive protein-enhanced granola that I bought for my cockatiel, and double checked my gear. Walked to the transition area, which is right in my own neighborhood. Set up in the wrong spot, had to move. No time to warm up in the pool, but I did splash water on myself beforehand.
Event warmup:

A brisk walk to the event location from my home did the trick!
Swim
  • 13m 9s
  • 574 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good on my swim! I relaxed and conserved my energy.
What would you do differently?:

Get into a faster wave so that I don't get caught behind anyone and I can take advantage of drafting.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Still having trouble with the clips. I need to bike more often. Also, there was a kids' race the day before and there were misleading arrows that took me to the wrong place. I griped at the staff about this, and felt guilty afterward.
What would you do differently?:

Practice biking and get rid of the toe clips.
Bike
  • 50m 4s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.38 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to focus on biking now that I am getting comfortable with the swim. I felt sluggish and worn-out on the hills. My shifting was terrible! Time for a tune-up!
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice!
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

AArgh! Someone hung their towel on my spot of the rack and there were people hanging out chatting right over my area! I had to be the transition area griper once again and shouted for the people to excuse me. I threw the towel down, racked my bike, could not find my racing belt, and then found it and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm..well...this one was not my fault. I guess I will have my racing belt ready and visible with something to weight it down so it does not blow around.
Run
  • 28m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt great on the run. It went by quickly.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed a bit harder for the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

I recovered very quickly.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I needed more time to train. This was a good season opener, and I look forward to beating these times by August.

Event comments:

Despite some oganization issues (the arrows in the transition area pointing the wrong way) I loved this race! I cannot wait to do it next year!
