Pre-race routine:

in wildwood - bagel w/pb and orange juice

My sons Steve and Mike were doing the kids tri - thier first - exciting morning and i was not paying enough attention to my setup
Event warmup:

@150 yard swim - water felt great so decided to go without wetsuit.

Perfect day, calm water and very pleasant out - chatted up Tim Kerr on the beach beforehand which was pretty cool as he was one of my favotrite Flyer's when he played
Swim

  • 440 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

decent swim for me -got out to first bouy in just under 2 minutes then turned it on - stopped swimminng and stood at 6:32 - long run up the beach to transition acconted for the rest of the time.

What would you do differently?:

the short ditsnces don't get my attention enough - maybe swam 4-5 times total in previous 6 weeks
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

my transition leave much to be desired - big bummer when I noticed my drink bottles were not on my bike - casualty of trying to ensure Mike and Steve were good to go.
Bike
  • 38m 9s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.87 mile/hr
Comments:

I was suprised at this result - felt like I was going much harder than this and I didn't recall my speed dropping under 19 expect for the turns - was expecting 20+ so I am disappointed. My bike computer had it a little longer 12.4 -but not enought to drop under 19MPH - need to work harder next time
What would you do differently?:

work harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Wife handed me my water bottle on the way out of transition - without thinking I took it and immediatetly thought - crap that's a penalty - tried to make up for it by not taking any water and running it back to my spot which cost me about 20 seconds. Was very thirsty at this point and walked the water station just outside trans to get a good drink.

Run
  • 25m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good out of transiiton but that ended as soon as i hit the sand. about a 50 yard run to the hard stuff and then it was fine until last 50 yards or so in the deep stuff again. Overall it was low tide and the sand was about as hard as it gets so I was happy with this run all in all.
What would you do differently?:

up run mileage so i can get in some speed work
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some water and went to find family and see the boys do the kids tri
They both did awesome out of 188 kids Steve finished 32 and Mike 38. Steve and I took 9 fastest family out of 23

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not sure how much not having water hurt me btu I suspect not much as I negative splited the run by a good bit

Event comments:

very well run event - lots of fast participants with lots of nice equipment
