Pre-race routine:

Tried to stay warm. Got set up and drove part of the bike course. Hoped that the train that stopped me on the drive would not be around come race time :)

Transition 1

Comments:

Deliberate about taking my time and making sure I was properly dressed. 3rd out of water but one of the last in my heat to hit the bike but in the end the extra long sleeve shirt made me comfortable on the bike and run so it was worth it.

Comments:

Not bad I guess. I forgot to untie my shoes pre race though so that slowed me down. Dumb mistake.
What would you do differently?:

untie my shoes pre race :)

Post race
Warm down:

Drink some water, ate some fruit and packed up and left. No activities after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Noticed the extra weight from last year. Had good stamina but I was just slower overall. Hopefully I can drop some weight and pick up speed as the season goes on.

Event comments:

Weather (which the race couldn't control) made this less enjoyable.

Also the active train tracks might have presented a problem (and I thought I heard a couple of runners got caught by a train) There was plenty of other options for routes. One other issue was a 90 degree turn on the bike where a gravel road come in. Lots of loose gravel, blind spot for cars coming up the road and no volunteer posted. Had to almost stop to make the turn for safety. Also the last hill on the bike was on a state highway and there was no turn arrow for the bike (just the run) and no volunteer at that turn. When I came back on the same section of the run there was a arrow but it was on the sidewalk and couldn't be seen from the road. Would have been easy to miss the turn. I would do this race again though.

Performance:
Had a really hard time for some reason with finding the wall. Pool start at deep end and to very shallow end. Came in way to fast on the shallow end and almost whacked my head trying to flip. On the deep end I kept coming up a stroke short to the wall so I gave up flipping and just touched and pushed off.

Course: Same as last 3 miles of bike course. Lot of uphill. Felt pretty good for the amount of hills. Had enough kick to run down a runner in the 1/4 mile and finished strong. What can I say I am a slow lumbering big guy.
