Swim
Comments: This was the first time that I started at the front of the pack. This seemed to work pretty good. I did not get caught up in the crowd and had a very event free swim. The plan was to stay on Tif's feet and do a little drafting. One swimmer did get in between us, but I just drafted off of her until she feel off pace and then I was on my own, but not too far from Tif...only 6 sec slower in the water. Also, I did not experience calf cramps during the swim. I bettered my swim by 2 minutes from last year. Very happy with my performance in the water today. What would you do differently?: I really think I had a darn good swim and I can not think of anything I would do differently. Transition 1
Comments: Man...I was breathing hard from the swim and really trying to catch my breath. Tif was there telling me to get a move on because she knew my goal was to make it into the top 5. It was tough getting calmed down enogh just to get the socks and shoes on. What would you do differently?: I just need to get my butt in gear and put the socks and shoes on and then get the breathing and HR down on the bike. Bike
Comments: This is the first time for me to lay it all on the line and go hard on the bike. I was really pushing myself and did not let up on the bike. I think I did a good job of finding the right gear in terms of being able to keep the mph up but not overworking the legs. I improved the mph by .2 from last year. I did feel my right leg wanting to cramp up about half way through the ride, but I took in some Gatorade and continued to sip on it throughout the remainder of the bike. This worked and the legs never did cramp. What would you do differently?: I am not sure what exactly I would do differently, but I would like to avg. at least 20 mph during a race. I will have to put in some hard work to improve the mph. Transition 2
Comments: I did not have any problems getting my bike on the rack and the shoes on. The one small problem was I was going to run out of T2 where you can in from the swim, but there was a vol. that redirected me and got me back on track. What would you do differently?: Not go out the wrong exit. Good news is I did not get all the way out before it was corrected. Run
Comments: Knowing the course was an advantage this morning. I pushed hard and met my goal of being in the 8:30 pace range. With about a mile to go, there was a lady that was 50 that passed my and this motivated me to pick up the pace. I was able to keep her within striking distance and then I was able to kick and overtake her after the bridge and push to the finish. Post race
Warm down: Did a little stretching. Event comments: This is one of my favorite races. It is well organized and tons of volunteers. I like the course too. Last updated: 2010-05-08 12:00 AM

Got up at 3 am this morning. Drank a cup of coffee before the drive to Sugarland. Ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich on the way up and drank some water. Set up tansition area.
Went for a short jog, about 1/2 mile. Drank some Gatorade after the jog and did some stretching. Also did about a 200 swim right before the start of the race.
