Swim
Comments: Given my hurried start to the race I was very frantic at the start. I need to relax at the start of a swim and find my rhythm by going slowly at first. First 200m were awful. I stopped often and was out of breath. What would you do differently?: Arrive on time. Start the swim in a relaxed way. Transition 1
Comments: Fair transition. Bike
Comments: A good ride. I felt the wind a lot on the parts exposed to the lake. It was difficult to control the bike with strong crosswinds. This is still an area where I need to improve. What would you do differently?: Keep riding. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I did not feel as fast or as comfortable as I did on this run last year so I was pleasantly surprised to see my time was only about 20 seconds slower. I felt my foot injury, but it did not impede me. It did occur to me during the race that because of the injury I had not run further than 7 miles since January. It is a hard run but I am happy with it. What would you do differently?: Not injure my foot by increasing mileage too quickly from December to January. Post race
Warm down: Swim in the lake. Discovered that the ankle bracelet had badly cut into my leg. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not relaxed at the start. Event comments: I'll be back. I love this race. Low budget and low key in a remote location. I felt for the volunteers as the wind was blowing the cups everywhere and we are not a very considerate lot. Late, late, late. Alarm did not go off. Then got lost in rural Orange County and so a planned 5.45 am arrival became a 6.38 arrival. Panic.
Arrived on the beach at 7.02 for a 7.03 start. No warm up.
