Age Group Rank = 7/11
Pre-race routine:

Set up. Got there plenty early. Needed a bathroom stop and had to wait a good while. Left little time for warm-up.
Event warmup:

Swam a few minutes.
Swim
  • 31m 58s
  • 1800 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

course short, but a good swim. Solid MOP for my first swim at this distance.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Need to work on breathing on right to improve sighting and breathing in waves. Waves from left in second leg
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

steep hill didn't use flying mount. Ranked 153rd.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to face helmet so I don't put it on backwards. Fellow athlete told me and I fixed it.
Bike
  • 3h 31m
  • 56.5 miles
  • 16.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Tried to save some for the run. Back began to hurt at mile 45.
What would you do differently?:

Strenghten back. Need to standup mor often. My Accelerade started to taste like horse urine and I began to dehydrate some. Never could catch up. Need to adjust to other sports drink in heat.
Transition 2
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

207th in field.
What would you do differently?:

Try taking or putting on something on my back for pain. Had stuff on bike, but didn't have anything in fuel belt.
Run
  • 2h 57m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Back hurt bad. Hamstring hurt initially, but took salt tabs and it was better in about 10 minutes. Iced back and stretched back and would run down hill. Back pain was pretty bad, but just kept going.

Even without the back pain, I couldn't have gone fast since I wasn't used to the heat.
What would you do differently?:

Fix my poor hurting back. Try to train in heat if possible.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a coke and iced and streched back.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Back pain, hydration on bike, and lack of training in heat.

Event comments:

The volunteers on the run wer very helpful. Race too hard for me in those conditions.
