Swim
Comments: Not a good swimmer, never will be. First time in water in over 2 years. I swam the first down and back pretty fast and then had to start walking to catch my breath. Got passed by atleast 8 people. That didnt help my time as I had to step aside and let them pass. I walked about 25% of the course. What would you do differently?: Find a place to practice swimming this early in the year. Not stand there waiting for the next person to pass. There was room for them to go around me. I will not wear shorts under my bike shorts!! Big mistake!! Transition 1
Comments: I felt like I did the T1 fast but 2:51 seems like a long time. Maybe spent too much time drying off. Somehow my helmet strap got stetched out while my bike was racked. That wasted time fixing it. What would you do differently?: Be more organized. I had my bike facing the wrong direction on the rack. Practice putting my socks and shoes on. Felt light headed when I bent down to put them on. Bike
Comments: This event is where ive spent most of my time training so I thought I was going to put more effort into this part. With all the hills I just couldnt get into a good rythm. Also starting this far at the end there isnt anyone fast enough to pace with. I got passed by two bikers from JMU and I stayed with them for a little while. Also my bike computer reset twice during the course. So I had no clue how far I had gone or how much was left. What would you do differently?: Push much harder on the bike. Try to find a good pace over the hills. Not wear the extra pair of shorts from the start. I never dried off even after the bike. Transition 2
Comments: 37th overall in T2 with my rack being at the very back. Thought I did very well here. Helmet and and shoes off fast, and slipped my running shoes on easily. Took one sip of water and ran out. What would you do differently?: I dont think I could have improved much here. Run
Comments: Very dissapointed with the run. I ran the whole thing at the same slow pace. Ran a 5k in 24:33 the weekend before. So I thought I could do this under 30:00. What would you do differently?: Do some running after biking. It took awhile for my legs to feel right after the bike. Also go out harder from the start, I think I was holding back some making sure I could run the whole time. Post race
Warm down: Ate a pice of pizza, drank a coke and left. What limited your ability to perform faster: Early in the year to find a pool to swim in. Event comments: This was my first triathlon so I cant complain about my performance. Now I know what to expect and what I need to improve on. Lots of volunteers on the course to cheer you on. I will for sure be back next year. Last updated: 2010-05-11 12:00 AM

Drove around the bike course the day before to see the first part leaving the city. Got there way early the morning of the race to rack my bike, get numbered, and wait...
Drank one bottle of water, ate an energy bar. Watched a few of the first people start the bike section. Saw someone really look stupid trying to mount the bike while moving. Watched some of the swim. Waited some more. Jogged some about 45 min before my start time, then 30 before start I did two laps in the warm-up pool.
