Pre-race routine:

Water, granola bar, fruit bar. Iced my foot on the way down. Could have eaten a little more, was feeling hungry just before the swim.
Event warmup:

Swam out to the turn around and back, about 500 yards.
  • 07m 52s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards

Good swim, could have been faster but got hung up in the wave before us about 200 yards out. Had to do a lot of weaving.
What would you do differently?:

Kick more and just swim over people. Its my strength and I'm losing time being nice to people. I also need to get used to rubbing shoulders with people, its not something you do in the pool! Also felt like I should have finished a little stronger but again, got caught up in all of the next wave.
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s

Good transition, put shoes on in transition and ran with bike. Had a little trouble with getting shoes clipped in, was trying to weave around people and clip in at the same time.
  • 28m 9s
  • 11 miles
  • 23.45 mile/hr

Great ride for me! Goal was to go out and crush the bike because I know I have not put any time in running. Only got passed by Stephen and another kid, who both ended up holding 25ish. Not sure I could have pushed it any harder, legs were burning and breathing was pretty tough. Looking at the results, the two guys who ended up beating me in AG were actually only 1 sec faster on the bike!
What would you do differently?:

Focus on the speedwork in training, need the power/strength to go faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m

Time got mixed into the run, good transition though. Took feet out of the shoes at the last turn, maybe .25 miles to go? Still rode pretty good with feet on top though and rode all the way up to the dismount. Had a little trouble pulling the bungee on the shoes but it wasn't a huge waste of time.
  • 21m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile

Ummmm... all things considered it was an ok run. I will start from the beginning though. Hot and humid. Foot was already hurting before the race. Not enough training for the run, actually almost none, I had the speed just not the endurance to hold it. Out of transition for about the first half mile I was 6:19 pace but quickly fell off. Prob should have drank some on the bike, mouth was very dry. Worst of all, got passed in the last 1/2 mile by two guys in my age group and missed 1st by 26 sec and 2nd by 8 sec.
What would you do differently?:

Get healed up so I can start running.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to get healed so I can start running.

Event comments:

Good race, I like the run through the neighborhood. Just wish the temps and humidity were at least somewhat like the day before.
