Swim
Comments: The water was very warm and murky. I started of far to the left and towards the back to avoid the slugfest. When the horn sounded I swam slowly knowing I needed to conserve energy. I ended up in the slugfest anyway and had a hard time passing people. At least drafting was OK. I think I know what sardines swimming a school feels like. I caught a mouthful of water from a person doing breast stroke adjacent to me while my head was up trying to site. That sort of broke rhythm. Sighting was good on the way out and back in. Once I passed the 2nd yellow site buoy. I swam sort of crooked down the short dog leg part of the lake towards the exit. What would you do differently?: Start off further up front and swim harder off the start. Turn up the aggression slightly. Be more confident with my swim conditioning. Mentally go over my sighting markers. I had 2 in my head, I needed 3. Transition 1
Comments: I was slow to get out of water and walked to the rack were by bike was. At rack I found my helmet was knocked of my bike and sunglasses were on the ground with a lense out (multi-lens type). Took a few seconds to get the lense in and clean it off. What would you do differently?: Hurry the heck up. Keep helmet and sun glasses on top of gear on ground so it does not get knocked off and stepped on. Bike
Comments: Blew hot wife a kiss on the way out onto the course. decent ride. I was shooting for a 31:00 bike split. I was a bit slower than I wanted. I held back again to conserve energy for the run. At my last tri - Xterra Muleshoe I was cramping on the run. I did not want that happening again. I slowed down too much on a long flat section and took it too easy for a few minutes too long. Police support was OUTSTANDING. What would you do differently?: keep up the tempo and push harder. Stick to my plan. Transition 2
Comments: Walked the bike in and racked it. I was on the way to a decent transition once running shoes were on and I was on the way out. I ran towards where we entered the transition from the swim to find out it was blocked off. I had to turn around and run out the correct exit What would you do differently?: Scout out the transition area better. I did not look for my entrances and exits as I was setting up. Run
Comments: Decent run - for me. I'm not much of a runner at all so I am satisfied with my run. My shoelace came un-tied about a quarter mile in so I had to stop and retie it. The rest of the run was pretty uneventful. What would you do differently?: Run harder, try to chase and stay with people in my AG who pass me. Post race
Warm down: ate some fruit and drank lots of water What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to turn up the aggression on the swim and bike portions and not hold back so much. Scout the transition areas better. Run more. Event comments: Great race, lots of voluneer and police support. Well organized. Will definitely have to do it again next year. up at 4:15 a.m. I had a hard time getting up, I was really groggy. Once up, I went thought the usual morning routine. Made oatmeal and filled my coffee mug with the Café' du Monde chilled coffee and condensed milk brew I made the night before, loaded up the vehicle and set out to the race site @ 4:50. Ate in car on the way down to race site. Arrived at Randall's parking lot near site about 10 till 6a.m. Rode in to race site. Got body markings, set up in transition, and checked in.
While waiting in staging area before start I had the opportunity to meet HoustonRider and Trin2bfast. Hot wife showed up to cheer on. I was pleasently surprised as she does not typically come out to whatch me race. I suppose Tri's are a bit different than MTB races. There are more opportunities to see your participant.
Swam ~300M.
