Pre-race routine:

Got up ate my PB waffle and coffee! Headed to the race site with Terri, Craig and his son Brian. Walked to transition...set up and debated on wetsuit or not. Decided not to because of two reasons..1) the water was pretty warm and 2) I actually thought I would have a lead on Terri since she wore hers..ha!
Event warmup:

Swam to the first buoy and back...felt great.
Swim
  • 09m 34s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Terri and I decided to put ourselves in the front and off to the left. Rounded the first buoy and saw my fiance and his son in the kayak. Looked up and said HI then continued with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get into my masters swim class again or maybe I just need to wear my wetsuit!
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Still too slow! Been trying to get under 1 min. But this time I had chatty kathy(Terri) next to me...;) She was giving me crap earlier because I was stressing over finding my bike. Well...I found mine right away....Terri not so much! But she did take off ahead of me as I struggled with my aero bottle, which had my only source of water. Could not get the velco to attach, so I threw it to the side just as I left bike out hoping to find it at the end of the race. Then thought to myself..there aren't any aid stations on the bike....16 miles riding without anything to drink. It gave me huge motivation to catch Terri and snatch somma hers!
What would you do differently?:

Make sure all bottles are securely attached!

Comments:

I love this bike course. Very fast and only one little hill. Finally caught Terri at mile 8, at the turn around and whined to her about nutrition issues. She was nice enough to share her gatorade with me. Felt bad about drinking her liquids and then taking off on her. I knew I had to get a good lead on her because she ALWAYS catches me on the run. So..I said thanks and off I went. Love ya girl!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...my bike has remained pretty strong this year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Came into transition thinking I had a good lead on Terri. Looked to my left..SH*T. She was racking only seconds after me. I am sure by now you are getting the idea that Terri and I are very competitive. Although we love to have fun, we still can't help but to race each other. I exited transition before her to get the lead.
What would you do differently?:

nothing

Comments:

I felt great on this run. This has always been my weak point. Got to mile 1.5 and I knew I would see Terri soon. Sure enough..turned to look over my left shoulder and there she was. She asked me if I wanted her to pace me. I said no..GO GIRL! And off she went. I think the motivation to catch her really helped me to keep this pace. Kept her in my sites but couldn't keep her pace. She finished about 1 minute and a half before me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Found Craig and Brian. Chatted with Terri. Got some food drink and listened to the awards.

Event comments:

My swim coach and her husband head up this race. They are the best. This was my 3rd year doing this race. I will be back next year. Very well organized and awesome people. Thank you to my great friend Terri for pushing me and just being there! And thank you to my wonderful and always supportive fiance!
