Swim
Comments: Swim felt really good.I stood right in-front on the far right away from the buoys because all the waves before bunched up to them.I went out hard for the first 400m and caught the wave that went before me and then went into cruise mode and then caught the the another group by the first turn buoy and was going at a good pace. My plan was to go all out right when I was in the middle of the cove entrance and I went all out for about 100m when I hit a WALL of feet and I had to swim over folks and find space which slowed me way down. I swim up to the beach and get up and there are a ton of people in my way walking and standing trying to unzip there speedsuits. I was like are you Freakin kidding me . I ran to the right and through some folks to get to the swim finish timing chip. It cost me alot of time but it was my first time to do a race with so many people. What would you do differently?: Swim far away from the buoys on the way back( miss all the people) and go all out. Transition 1
Comments: longggg run to bike and longgg run to bike out. Made sure I had sunscreen on and I am glad I took the time to re-apply. I am fair skinned . What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I took the first 20 miles at comfortable pace watching some drafting going and fueled up and got my nutrition in and turned it on at mile 30ish as my planned called for. Wilmington nc has NO hills or rollers so I trained on the white lake half ironman course fast and flat and thought it would be the same for florida BUT noo at mile 35 and 40ish some nice rollers appeared BUT I was ready I passed a ton of people and my legs felt great going up them and then down a few at 36mhp. I felt great and no issues except for front break rubbing alittle. I could have gone out faster but I was happy because I did not know how I would fell on the run. What would you do differently?: I would do my nutrition alittle earlier because the course was fast and I could have easily made it under 3hours. Transition 2
Comments: LONGGGGG run back to my bike rack but some Ding Dong kicked my shoes and gels on the other side of my rack. NOT happy. But body gilded the feet and out What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I felt great running on the road. I was doing 8m:48sec mile one and then 9m:02sec mile 2 running on the grass and sand and was super happy I was feeling great and going to go way under my goal finish time when I hit that longggggggggg HOTTTTTT stretch to mile 3 and BAM my left calf (which I injured 3 weeks before the race) cramped up and felt like it got sucked into the back of my knee and stay there for like a minute. I started to hobble/walk in it till I got to the aid station and took my endyralights and it helped a little bit but my run was done. I just walked and shuffle/ran as much as I could to get to 7 hrs. My original goal was 6h:30m so I am not too disappointed for my first half ironman and just happy I finished it. What would you do differently?: Not do this race until they change the run course Post race
Warm down: Pizza and water and then a dipp in the lake and wash my legs from the run Event comments: Need to change the run course Last updated: 2010-05-17 12:00 AM
