Swim
Comments: had a cramp in my right calf about 200 yards from the end. Got thru the swim Transition 1
Comments: just a LONG run from the lake to the transition area. My rack was set up on wood chips and in the full sun. Bike
Comments: I flatted at mile 38. Watched LOTS of people pass me. Relatively flat with rollers starting about mile 35. athletes got mixed in with cars on the last 10 miles and the cars couldn't pass the slower cyclists and then it just backed up. Headwind the last 14 or so miles. I was scared to push hard b/c of the cramp in my calf. Transition 2
Run
Comments: HOT, HOT, HOT. Mostly grassy, uneven, hole filled jeep trails with no shade at all. 3 loops of this with about 3 miles per loop on this mess. There were not enough medical personnel on the route and there were people needing help all over on this route. It was impossible to keep cool. I had ice in a hanky stuffed down the back of my tri top and in every pocked I had. Also carried a cup of ice and ate ice chips the entire run. Ran the first loop. Ran 1/2 of the second loop and walked almost all of the 3rd look. THe heat was just brutal. I would NEVER do this event again unless the run route is changed What would you do differently?: change the entire run route Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: heat on run route Event comments: I would never participate in this event again unless the run course was changed. Over 9 miles on grassy, pot holed jeep trails with absolutely no shade. It was beyond HOT and I am used to the heat living in FL. The expo was horrible...if you could call it an expo. There was nothing but a few sodas and pizza at the end of the race. Nothing else for athletes. THey ran out of ice and gatorade at one of the rest stops on the run. Last updated: 2010-05-18 12:00 AM
