Swim
Comments: The chop was a little worse this year since a storm was trying to pass through. But I've been working on my swimming so I expected to be faster than last year at a minimum. Really wanted to be about a minute faster than this but I just kept getting a face full or two of water and would breast-stroke a bit to burp that. Second half of the swim was much better, but it's so short that doesn't help enough. Still 2:20 faster than last year and this was worse conditions - that's a full 100m or more faster. Still only top 30% or so in swimming, which I'm happy with right now for having only been swimming about a year. What would you do differently?: More OWS long sets. Need to learn better OWS breathing techniques and to keep my head down more/less sighting myself. Transition 1
Comments: Ugh, sock got turned and this prob cost me an extra 10 seconds to fix as feet were wet so turning it was problematic. Otherwise good transition. What would you do differently?: Line up socks more carefully Bike
Comments: Fairly windy out there today. Bike was blown over a little by gusts at least twice and I'm not light. Really wanted greater than 20mph avg here and got it. 3:33 faster than last year. About 6 out of 25 bike split so that's great for my level. What would you do differently?: Keep on getting better, lose weight! Transition 2
Comments: Went well Run
Comments: Wasn't feeling fresh when I started the race, but didn't expect to be feeling so slow. Wanted to be closer to 9's and just didnt get it today. Still a better time than last year by two minutes for me, however this is where I fall behind the most in triathlon. I was somewhere around 19 of 25 in run splits (5 of 8 in Athena) and that just negates most of the other two disciplines. I have not been running much lately (due to injury) so it's kind of to be expected...but at the same time just highlights that this is my weakness and I need to do more run focus. What would you do differently?: drum-roll...run more. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and cheered for remaining racers, talked to family and friends. Stayed for awards...my team had 3 1st place AG finishes, and two 2nd place finishes...I pulled a 2nd place Athena behind my super fast teammate who would have gone 3rd 30-34F lol. Event comments: I like the small, local flavor of this race. It brings some truly fast people out who want to put the pedal to the metal and I love that. It's short enough to not take your whole day and really put some effort into it. I like the simple course and that it tends to run on time. Looking forward to doing it again next year... Up at 4:15am, got dressed and everything in car, on road at 4:45am. I live pretty far north so had to get on the road fairly early. My sis went along with me.
I had been planning to warm-up for this event but just got to talking a little much so I only did a few strokes in the water and that was it. I figure it wasn't like I was trying to win my AG so I wasn't really worried.
