Swim
Comments: This was an OK but not great swim for me. It was much better than last year from a pacing/breathing perspective but still felt rough. I settled in for the last 200 or so. I think the lack of a warmup really hurt. What would you do differently?: Warm up. Transition 1
Comments: Fairly good transition though I need to come up with another solution for the Garmin (or get a dedicated bike computer). Getting it on probably cost me at least ten seconds. What would you do differently?: Find another solution for the Garmin. Bike
Comments: The bike course felt pretty good though I was very out of breath for the first mile or two. I continue to be a bit slow on the uphills. What would you do differently?: Work on hills and do some additional speed work on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: This was a fast transition for me. I did a better than normal job of just grabbing my race number and going. Run
Comments: I was really spent after the bike and had trouble recovering for the first part of the run. I did't really hit my stride until nearly the two mile mark. What would you do differently?: Slowing down for the last sixty seconds of the bike might leave me a little more recovered for the run. Post race
Warm down: Stretched out a bit and grabbed a water while I waited for Jen to cross the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: The limiter was really just fitness related. I couldn't go any faster without blowing up. Additional speed work might help fix this. Event comments: Shermanator continues to be a fun race. It was even better organized than last year with a better layout in the transition areas and better crowd control than last year. The volunteers were helpful and friendly. Woke up early and had toast with honey and some coffee.
I didn't have any real warmup which was probably a mistake. The water closed for warmups fifteen minutes before my wave started which wouldn't have been great.
