Swim
Comments: A little choppy but not nearly as bad as New Orleans was. I positioned myself the closest possible to the start buoy to stay in front of the pack and I kind of managed to do so, however the fastest in the AG was 2'10" faster (W-O-W!), all the rest came out in a very compact pack of six or seven where I was fourth. What would you do differently?: Push harder, sometimes I tend to pace like if it's gonna be a longer swim. Before I even felt warmed up I was coming out of the water. Transition 1
Comments: No mistakes but still slower than I wished. I gotta practice transitions. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions! probably the most overlooked thing in my training. Bike
Comments: Went pretty much in the red zone all the way, but I know that I don't start to yield a very good pace until mile 15 or so. I don't I'm made for these very short races, it's more like my body gives more when I put it through longer efforts. What would you do differently?: One thing I should have done is to go without race wheels. There was quite a bit of crosswinds and sometimes it was difficult to stay aero. Transition 2
Comments: Good, uneventful t2. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Once again, I'm so much slower than I should be! Mostly considering my previous performances in other races. I feel heavy and slow. What would you do differently?: Loose 10 or 12 pounds. Post race
Warm down: Ate some pizza and drank Gatorade. Jack is not known for having great after parties but that is not the reason why I do his races. If you want good organization, a well policed and refereed bike course, safety and accuracy in the measurements of the distances, do one of the Ironhead races. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just the run and maybe 30" of t1, the rest was pretty much flawless. Event comments: I love Jack's races, the guy is anal about organization and fairness and that makes for a well oiled race. Last updated: 2010-05-21 12:00 AM

Drank some yerba mate and ate a toast before heading to the race site.
Jogged for half a mile really slow. Sleepy!
