Swim
Comments: I recognized a fellow BTer from her profile pic and we chatted on the beach a couple minutes before the start which was nice. As usual, I enjoyed the swim and even enjoyed the run across the beach to do it again. I wore a regular swim cap then my goggles, then the colored race cap. I did that at Pokagon and felt more secure with my goggles that way. Not many people around me since I'm so slow so no issues of drafting or being kicked this time. What would you do differently?: Be confident of my sighting. For some reason, I sighted too much. I was swimming pretty straight so I didn't need to spend that extra energy so often. Also, not be concerned about people passing me. For some reason I tend to stop my stroke and panic a bit when that happens. Relax, get in the rhythm. People are going to pass me all the time. Transition 1
Comments: I can't figure where they started the T-1 time. I don't recall stepping on a timing mat after the swim, but my time is sure long for just being in the transition area. I'll assume my time includes running up the hill. I was the 3rd fastest woman for T-1 and 11th overall so I can't complain What would you do differently?: Figure out how to get the wetsuit off my heel. Bike
Comments: Nice course. I passed a couple folks on mountain bikes which I think were doing the sprint tri but other than that, I felt pretty much alone out there. Second loop found some people who I passed, then they passed me back by (one was the fellow BTer). I stayed pretty consistent throughout. I did put on sunglasses because I didn't think to do different, but with the rain and overcast skys I was uncomfortable seeing so I pushed the glasses down my nose and peered over them. I'm sure I looked like a goober but it worked. It was humid so I drank more than usual. And Dang, I'm slow - 47 out of 57? It was my best bike time pace ever - over 18. It is what it is. What would you do differently?: Clear lenses for my sunglasses or not wear any at all? I've not biked without glasses so I might feel naked. :) I obviously need to learn how to spin my legs faster. Transition 2
Comments: Wow, I'm good at this one! I was the fastest woman in T-2 time and tied for 5th place overall. If only there'd be a podium spot for transitions. :) What would you do differently?: I got my pinky toe caught in my left shoe as I was putting it on so I had to retry. Just think if I'd gotten it right the first time, I might of beaten a couple more guys. Run
Comments: Kept a good pace but felt heavy from all the water I'd taken in. Started to fade a bit between miles 4 and 5 but got it back together (mentally just kicked myself) and finished strong. I enjoyed doing a quick talk to the nice volunteers at the water stations which I ended up seeing 4 times during the race (2 on the bike and 2 on the run). The ladies at mile 10 of the bike, which was also the run turnaround, were the best cheerleaders. What would you do differently?: Finally had a run time of under one hour in an oly tri, so I'm not sure I'd do anything different. Just keep running. Now I know I can work through some fatigue which was something good to learn about myself. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water and went to transition to clean up. They were announcing winners so decided to hang out a bit. I hadn't seen any women in my old ladies AG so I thought I might have come in first and last. Chatted again with my new BT friend, ate a little pizza and fruit and layed down in the back of my car. Nice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Did this tri so I could see the area where I'm coming back in July to do my first 70.3. I didn't push it super hard since I wanted to have energy to drive the couple hours home and still have something left to give to my family. I finished with a smile so that's good. Event comments: We were kept informed with a lot of info posted on Facebook, the website and e-mails before the race. Nice volunteers throughout. Even though they were also running a 5K, 10K, Duathlon, Sprint and Oly the same time, it was very organized. The enticement of beer after a race does nothing for me so I'd leave that out and keep registration costs down. Otherwise, nice venue. Last updated: 2010-05-24 12:00 AM

This was the first tri that I've spent the night close to the race site instead of driving in so I didn't have to wake up as early. I didn't sleep the greatest, though and didn't feel all that strong waking up in a strange bed, but ate my normal bagel w/ peanut butter, yogurt w/ granola and a banana. I think I was the first car at the race site at 6.
Found my required transition spot because they had all the numbers premarked and figured how to set it up with the way they had the flow. Did my normal warm up of bike, then quick run, then wetsuit on.
