Total Time = 1h 17m 19s
Overall Rank = 147/319
Age Group = 25-39
Age Group Rank = 11/17
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am. Ate one egg on a whole wheat english muffin and drank alot of water. Took a Gu with 2x caffeine 20 min before race.
Event warmup:

Not Enough! Took a dip in the water and ran in place. Def need to take a lap in the water next time and take a jog.
Swim
  • 12m 46s
  • 580 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

Couldnt get a rythm breathing due to the cold and general panic. Ended up breast stroking half the race. Nothing like swimming in the pool.
What would you do differently?:

Train more in open water. Wear a wetsuit!
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Was moving a little slow after being unexpectedly tired from the swim and cold water. Didnt wear socks and it def helped with speed.
What would you do differently?:

Reset bike computer! I showed 17 miles halfway through the race and never knew exactly wear I was.
Bike
  • 35m 40s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt ok, could have gone a little harder. Immediately after getting on the bike in the bent over position my mid-section began to cramp up. THis lasted for most of the race. I think it was due to the over-effort on the swim. I was flying down hills, hit ~37mph one time.
What would you do differently?:

Climp hills faster, not take breaks going down hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Simply pulled up to the dismount, clicked out relatively slowly, and walked/ran the bike into transition. Again didnt wear socks in the running shoes, which ended up helping the time and didnt cause any blisters.
What would you do differently?:

Loosen shoes on ride, slip feet out while riding possibly. Get look cleats.
Run
  • 26m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Very fatigued at this point and couldnt get the legs to move faster. Wanted to stop a few times but pushed through it. Only drank one cup of water around mile one.
What would you do differently?:

Extend stride, push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Unprepared for cold open water swim. Need to train in open water and get a proper wetsuit.

Event comments:

First ever triathlon. Learned a ton and know what I need to work on for next time.
