Swim
Comments: Really thought I did better than this in the swim. Swam confidently with no sighting issues other than my goggles fogging up, and two quick stops to lift the goggles and clear them did the trick. Didn't find anyone to draft off of (they all took off really quickly). Passed some girls and guys at the end of the swim, so again, I thought I did well. Apparently not. What would you do differently?: Different goggles. Just need to get better overall in the swim. Thought about not wearing the wetsuit due to the warm temperature. I did get a little warm in the wetsuit, but I kept thinking about how cold I was at St. George, and was happy about being warm instead. Transition 1
Comments: Decent T1. Got wetsuit off heels fairly well, everything was organized. Spent a couple of seconds putting on my gloves. Otherwise, did pretty well for me. Watch said I spent about 2:08 in T1. What would you do differently?: No gloves for sprints? Bike
Comments: Loved the bike ride. Passed a LOT of people. Cornered OK -- probably slowed down a little too much on a couple of the corners and on the U-turn. Had one point where I thought the rear tire was getting flat. Stopped and checked -- tire was OK, but four women I had passed went by me! I got back in it and passed them back almost immediately and didn't see them again until the u-turn. Climbing gears helped, but I topped out on the high gears going downhill. Top speed was 33 mph. What would you do differently?: Not stop unless absolutely sure there's a flat. Need to practice corners and U-turns. Transition 2
Comments: Odd T2. It was point to point race, so our running stuff was packed in bags and hung on racks. Spent a few seconds waiting for bag to be pulled, and more extra seconds trying to stuff helmet and shoes into little bag. Also removed bike gloves -- probably should have left them on. Put on socks and Avia shoes. What would you do differently?: No bike gloves on sprint. Should try to run without socks. Run
Comments: Wow, was this fun! Hard, but fun. Ran it all out, as fast as I could, bouncing over rocks, passing people on the trail, scooting up hills, blasting down hills. Avia's were nice and light, but also allowed more sharp rocks to hurt my feet and didn't provide ankle support. Wished I had my Nike's. Stopped for about a minute to talk to Brian on an uphill. What would you do differently?: Put speed laces in my Nike's and wear them on the trail run. For speed, I shouldn't have stopped and talked, but for fun I don't think I would have kept going without saying hi. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched a little, talked to Brian and Jenna. Waited FORVER to get my bike and T2 bag. Drank a Muscle Milk (chocolate - yum!) and Powerade. What limited your ability to perform faster: SWIM! When I improve my swim, my AG standings will improve. More experience on the bike and run will help, too. Event comments: Good race. Only downfall is not having enough volunteers to point out extreme course turns on the bike and run. Also, they gave out pint glasses for each finisher, but of course a few got broken in T1. Not great for people walking around or in flip-flops, or where there are a lot of bikes. Really like the pint glasses, but they should be boxed, wrapped or given at registration (and hand out the t-shirt at the finish, like a finisher's shirt). Also, it would be really nice to have chip timing. Will likely do this race next year. Last updated: 2010-05-27 12:00 AM

Stayed at mother-in-law's condo in Scottsdale. Got up at 4 a.m., made bagel with peanut butter, braided hair. Left at 4:30 a.m. Arrived at park at 5:15. Briefly met up with Brian and Jenna, then set up transition area.
