Swim
Comments: Not quite sure on the distance for this course. Everyone that raced last year said that the course was much longer this year. In my training sessions I had been finishing with times around 15:00-15:15 for a half mile swim. When I exited the water and saw my time over 18 minutes I was floored. So I am not sure how to judge my swim performance on this one. I did have to stopped twice, once for someone swimming on top of me and another for someone knocking my goggles off my face but not 3 minutes worth. I felt fine throughout the entire swim and was not tired or gassed like I was at Millennium Park Tri. What would you do differently?: I know I have to improve on my swim technique and get faster but that will come with practice. My sighting was a little off heading towards the first buoy but settled in after that. Coming off the 2nd buoy it was hard to sight where to finish but I think I managed to stay on course. I could have picked up the pace a little bit coming into the swim finish. Practice, Practice, Practice in the off-season for next year. Transition 1
Comments: Coming into T1 I didn't feel all that winded but I know I can improve in this area. Putting on socks and cycling shoes took longer than I wanted. What would you do differently?: Continue to practice and learn to ride without socks and have cycling shoes already on bike so I don't waste time putting them on. Bike
Comments: I bought a new Bike, (Specialized Secteur Elite) and picked it up this pas Thurs. so I only had about 8 miles on the thing. It rode and handled nicely but around the 12 mile mark my saddle started giving me trouble to the point I was uncomfortable. I am very sore now and might have to take the bike back in for an adjustment. I didn't push as hard as I did at Millennium Park which help out because I was not near as tired on the run. Overall I am happy with my bike time considering it was a new bike. I know I need to get faster and that will come with time and practice. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder on the hills than what I did. Transition 2
Comments: Another area where I need to improve. I got out of my shoes and rode with my feet on top but felt clumsy doing so. Practice will obviously help this. What would you do differently?: Get into my running shoes faster than what I did. Run
Comments: I felt much more comfortable on this run than the Millennium Tri. Around the 3 mile marked I ran with someone which helped keep pace and made the time go by faster. Overall I am happy with the run. What would you do differently?: Push harder at the end to finish strong. Post race
Warm down: Waited for my wife to finish and then we changed into some dry clothes and walked around for a few minutes. Went and grabbed some fruit and a drink. Event comments: This was our first race at Reeds Lake and it was very well organized. We will be back next year for sure. Last updated: 2010-05-31 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30, showered and had some yogurt and a piece of toast. Made sure I had everything packed and then woke my wife up. Left the house around 5:20 and arrived in East GR around 5:50.
My wife and I set-up our transition areas and walked around for a little bit. It was cold out, around 53 degrees with a slight breeze. My wife was anxious about the swim because she doesn't like cold water. We both stretched a bit and waited for our heats to start. She was in heat 2 and I was in heat 4. I took a gu gel around 7:00, 22 minutes before my heat.
