Swim
Comments: This was my first open water swim and my first time wearing a wetsuit. Wow was it ever crazy at the beginning! Once we rounded the first buoy things started to spread out quite a bit. I managed to draft almost the entire race (probably about 90% of the time). I tried to stay relaxed and calm as I knew that this would be the easiest leg of the race for me so there was no sense in trying to push it this early. The girls I drafted off of were doing a great job of sighting so I decided to trust them and not sight quite as much. I think the course may have been long as this is much slower then my pool 1500m time trial time. What would you do differently?: I probably could have started a bit closer to the front. Also, I need to get more practice swimming in my wetsuit as it tired my arms out a bit. Transition 1
Comments: T1 time is included in the bike time. I had some trouble getting the wetsuit off - it got stuck around my ankles. I had chosen not to use the wetsuit strippers as they seemed busy and I figured I wouldnt lose much time. ALso I did not feel like lying down then having to jump back up (I get dizzy easily). What would you do differently?: Not much, I don't lose all that much time in T1 so I'm okay with how fast I am. I'm sure I will get faster here with more practice. Bike
Comments: The wind never seemed to work to my advantage on the course. I think it was a cross wind on the way out and then I seemed to be fighting against the wind on the way back. I went out trying to enjoy the ride and not go too hard (as I am well aware that I am not a very strong runner and I wanted to save my legs). Myself and two other girls ended up leap frogging each other 7 or 8 times on the way back which made it kind of fun. Unfortunately I lost them at around 35 k (im assuming this is because I havent gotten in that many long rides). What would you do differently?: Nothing really, just get in more practice! Transition 2
Comments: T2 time is also included in the bike course. Unfortunately someone racked their bike in my spot and felt the need to throw their wetsuit on the other spot. I had to move their wetsuit then attempt to rack my bike in their spot....but the spot was too small (the were wooden racks where you stuck your wheel into). I eventually managed to half shove my tire into it. I got my shoes on quickly and took off! What would you do differently?: I dont think there is much I could have done in this situation - it was just unlucky! Run
Comments: kilometers 1 and 2 felt great! I felt no bike to run issues! I thought I was on pace for a PB. I hit kilometer 2 in under 10 minutes! Then i hit the wall..haha. I wasn't that exhausted but my legs were so sore and I could hardly lift them up. I got passed by sooo many people on the run and I don't think I passed a single person. I managed to hit the 5K mark at 26:40 which is pretty good for me! I was mentally exhausted and was wondering why I was doing this race.. had to stop a few times and get myself back together! 2nd 5K was almost 30minutes. I was extremely happy to be finished! What would you do differently?: Get in more running practices. Being sick two out of the last 4 weekends caused me to miss long runs so this probably weakened my running ability. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank water and ate snacks. Watched the rest of the people from my club finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running - as usual.... I need to run more Event comments: I think being so sick this past month affected my abilities quite a bit. I missed a ton of practices because of this. Overall I am pretty happy since this was my first olympic distance triathlon!! I am just a bit disappointed in my run (not so much on the time as I am happy with 56min but more disappointed in how I felt - sore and mentally defeated). Last updated: 2010-06-07 12:00 AM

Got up at 6am. Had a bagel and some juice. Got a drive to the transition area - got there around 6:45am. There was already tons of people there! Grabbed a transition spot to avoid running in my bike shoes as much as possible.
Went for an easy 5 min jog. Then got into wetsuit and got into the lake. Watched the sprint racers and olympic men take off. Did some front crawl. Mostly just floated around until it was our turn.
