Swim
Comments: Confusing and very swamp like. It was a point-to-point course. Only pretend that you went to far and had to turn back on the course 180 degrees and then make a sharp right turn to exit the water. I think that's what they intended. None of the swim BOP-pers knew where the hell we were going. With the course confusion, and all the weeds and murky stank it was like Thunderdome out there. Everyone I was with seemed relieved to be out of the water alive and not glowing green. What would you do differently?: Well I'll certainly try to attend the recommended "orienteering the swim course" talk before hand and ask for one of them swim compasses that all the kids are talking about. Yes Betty, that right there is a whole big pile of sarcasm. Transition 1
Comments: Little hang up on the parole style ankle monitor timing chip. Ripped it off and had to quickly strap back on. What would you do differently?: Thinking about working up my heat tolerance so I can do the entire race in my wetsuit saving me time in transition. Bike
Comments: 38k. Really? Not sure why. This was a last second change and appeared a day or two prior on the website with no explanation. Well, there seemed to be plenty more roads out there to find another 2K. How can tri directors get away with this stuff anyway? Can you imagine showing up to a marathon and finding out at the last second that its only going to be 24 miles? Or worse, 28? This seems to be a trend with RAM races though. They can put together "the best" goodie bags but they just can't do math or follow a map. For craps sake Mr/Mrs race director, its called a GPS. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I had a pretty good ride. And I am almost certain I'm the only one shouting "on your left" anymore. And to Mr Slickster Slickerton on the "hey, look how much money I spent on my red Trek" - You can shove your "f***, watch out dude" comment up your pooper. Its your responsibility to let me know that your trying to pass, you know, while I'm making a pass. So you're three wide. And I was there first. Ass. Transition 2
Comments: I'd put my flying dismount against any one of the leaders any day of the week and twice in Sundays. But they don't give style points for triathlon, do they. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: My real run time was 45:39. I inadvertently went over the timing mat before I hit the potty on the run out. I meant to leave that time as part of my T2. That's right Shmize, I used the Johnny during an Olympic distance race. And, no, I couldn't hold it. And, sorry, I just can't pee on myself during a run. I've actually tried it once - ended up looking all fountain cherub. Arced it right out through the shorts. Um, yeah. Nothing inconspicuous about that. My bladder generates the type of pressure that would rival a fire hose. Sure its great for the ol' pissing over an electric fence dare. But not so much when trying to discretely relieve oneself during a race. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Marveled at Shmize and waited to cheer very loudly for Jen. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm terribly afraid of success and unconsciously sabotage my performance. But once my shrink gets me dialed in you better hold on to your shorts. I'll be gettin' Schmitty with it! Event comments: I could sit here bitchin about the different RAM races I've done (or signed up for and backed out of) because of their lack of attention to detail. But I won't. However, case in point - anyone who did they race go right now and get your cycling jersey (I'll wait). Okay, look at both side panels. Something eschew? (hopefully I'm making a point here and that I didn't get the only jersey with the words/letters reversed and upside down). Last updated: 2010-06-09 12:00 AM

Got up early for a shake/warm up run. The usual. Over the years my race travels have taken me to some of the Midwest's finest econ-o-lodgings and I have logged considerable mileage across their parking surfaces all in the name of pre-race intestinal relief.
Warmed up mostly by donating about a pint of blood to the local mosquito heard. Oh and get this, Jimmy - for the first time ever got to set up transition next to Jen. Unprecedented. We were in back to back waves and transition was set up so Jen and I shared a rack (and yes the sophomore in me thinks its funny to be making references to my wife and 'rack" in the same sentence - gigity). I found that when you are close and personal friends with your rack mate (gigity) you essentially double your space. At least it feels like it. I think they should have Husband/Wife racks. Like those family restrooms. Well not exactly like those family restrooms but I still think they should.
