Swim
Comments: Goggles got knocked loose in first 100M...so i had to side swim a cpl strokes to while i fixed it. I never really got settled in...did most breathing on 2, whereas I train on 3. Also felt like I lost the lead swimmers, but was faster that the bulk of the wave...thus drafting was minimal. Swim course was cut short since part of the pond was too shallow. Swim also included ~150yd run to transition. What would you do differently?: Try to get settled in better and breath on 3. Transition 1
Comments: Had issue with getting left calf out of wetsuit. Avg HR: 160 What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Bike
Comments: Long distance b/t transition and mount/dismount line...maybe 100yds. I was out of T1, and running to the mount line when i realized i had my cleat covers on...oops. stopped and took them off and put them in my tri-top pocket. I forgot to reset my computer beforehand so i reset it right after the mount line. 1 bottle gu2o, 2 gu's, 1/2 bottle of h2o Besides that...ride was good...all big ring...kept cadence mosty mid 90s. I clocked 23.5 miles (as did 4 or 5 others I spoke with) w/ avg spd of 21.5mph. What would you do differently?: Outside of the cleat covers and setting the bike computer, I was happy with the bike. Felt it was my best bike in a race yet. Transition 2
Comments: Chose not to ride w/ feet on shoes since you had to walk across a lot on a rocks/gravel/shell path. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: In hindsight, I think I shoulda pushed the first mile harder. I tend to be a pace runner...I settle into a pace and can't seem to pick it easily during a run. Temp was mid 50s and i felt very comfortable...didn't even break a heavy sweat...but i didn't feel like I could go much harder. Still my best tri run i've had. What would you do differently?: Start off faster/harder. Post race
Warm down: Nothing What limited your ability to perform faster: Short of focusing training on sprints (track workouts etc.), I don't feel like I could've done a lot better. Event comments: Couple things annoyed me. (1) The sign-up asked for race-day age. I was started in the M25-29 wave, yet the results posted me in 30-34. I don't really care which AG I race under, but make it consistent so I at least know who to attempt to run down or not worry about. (2) Bike in/out was the same spot. Gives advantages to those closer to the mat. Granted this transition area was in a little league field, so it prob wouldn't be possible to make it completely fair. (3) Get the correct mileage on the bike course. Its not hard. bike it, use google maps, drive it...whatever. the race was already a goofy distance..who cares if its 22 or 23...just get it right. these are all minor things, but they also are not hard to get it correct. Overall, I still like the Piranha Sports races. Last updated: 2006-01-20 12:00 AM
