  • Comments: Seemed like a very fast field for such a small/local event (or maybe I was just a total slug that day). A lot of people blowing by me on $5000 bikes. A well organized race, but for me the bugs took most of the enjoyment out of it. I am writing this, I am scratching the approximately 6,000 bug bites on each of my arms and legs. I look like I have the freakin chicken pox. Can't blame race management for the bugs I guess, but it would have been nice to get an email a day or two before warning us to bring some bug spray. I have no idea if the bugs are like this every year, but I probably won't be back to find out.

  • Comments: Met up with the rest of my tri team, cheered a bunch of them finishing, checked times and we found that three of the girls won their AG's. None of the boys placed :) The bugs were horrible, we had a club picnic planned but canceled that, it was just too nasty. I soaked myself with bug spray but it didn't help, I think the gnats saw it as seasoning. Typical gross muddy NJ lake, but I liked the bike course a lot, and the run was completely flat.

  • Comments: This is my first Tri but there wasn't really any post race activities and I did a half marathon once earlier this year where there was a bunch of stuff going on both before and after the race; overall though it was what it was. Very organized and a triathlon!

  • Comments: Main downside was bugs. Other than that it would be decent race. Not particularly scenic or memorable. I could do without this race next year, or consider the half-lite if that is a distance that fits my plan.

  • Comments: Piranha definitely has this process down to a science. The TV screens they had up rotating the results pages and updating them real time were very cool. Lots easier than trying to crowd around printouts taped to a wall.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: This was just one of those races where nothing goes correctly. Running incredibly late, scrambling to eat something and get wetsuit on before close of transition. Indigestion caused gagging during swim, strained glute muscle on bike, which significantly hindered run. Lesson learned, some races just aren't going to go your way!

  • Comments: As always, Piranha was very organized...they have this down to a science. They did go off a little late but not by too many minutes. The only reason I rate it a 4 is because it seems like there is just too much distance from swim exit to T1 and from there to bike mount line. I can see maybe doing this one again just because of the challenge, but I was sorry to have missed the Broad Street Run this year, and I skipped that because I didn't want to be beat up for this. And then my performance ends up this way, as if I was beat up anyway!

  • Comments: I have heard stories about the lake, but had no issues with it. The lake exit was only one at a time, but did move pretty quick. Would compete in the event again. It is a larger sprint than the normal sprint distances.

  • Comments: he day was truly an awesome day. I had an awesome race and an awesome time. THe whole atmosphere of the triathlon was stunning. Everyone is so friendly and it is so easy to relate to any stranger that one talks to. I received so much help this weekend in terms of logistics and moral support. The Yale Triathlon Team is truly awesome. Dinner on Saturday night was at Lucia's with Josh Hunsberger, Jeff (Shoreline Sharks buddy), Tom Petersen, Lisa, Roland (Shoreline Sharks), Sherry, and the Markesichs.

  • Comments: Couple things annoyed me. (1) The sign-up asked for race-day age. I was started in the M25-29 wave, yet the results posted me in 30-34. I don't really care which AG I race under, but make it consistent so I at least know who to attempt to run down or not worry about. (2) Bike in/out was the same spot. Gives advantages to those closer to the mat. Granted this transition area was in a little league field, so it prob wouldn't be possible to make it completely fair. (3) Get the correct mileage on the bike course. Its not hard. bike it, use google maps, drive it...whatever. the race was already a goofy distance..who cares if its 22 or 23...just get it right. these are all minor things, but they also are not hard to get it correct. Overall, I still like the Piranha Sports races.

  • Comments: I will definately do this one again next year despite the iffy swim. The atmoshpere alone would be enough for me. Maybe I'll try the HIM .

  • Comments: Hard to rate, considering it is my first tri. However, compared with the du's I did last year, it seemed well organized.
