Total Time = 2h 25m 2s
Overall Rank = 89/1000
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 20/92
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30, coffee, shower, bagel, feed dogs, load truck,. Hit the road at 4:45. 45min. ride to venue.
Event warmup:

Picked a spot in transition. I now think I should have picked a spot on the lake side due to the location of the exit and the counter clockwise ONLY enter and exit. This would make a small advantage at T2
Swim
  • 27m 54s
  • 1367 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water temp was perfect. Very murky. Warmed up and in the process smacked heads with some guy. I was 50% at fault but he got 100% of the damage. I hung with him till his contact went back in place. He was good to go after that. Not my best swim. Felt slow and sluggish for the 1st 500 with a lot of bumping. The extra buoys confused me a bit although I think I chose good lines. Finally got in a nice pace but couldn't make up the time.
What would you do differently?:

Now that the weather is good I will do some open water training
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

T1 was fast and smooth. Did a step over mount instead of running mount. This worked really well
What would you do differently?:

nothing this is as good as it gets
Bike
  • 1h 10m 22s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.19 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm curious if anyone ever worked the water station
What would you do differently?:

I am getting more comfortable with my running at this race distance so I will push harder on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

I was not ready to go sock less so putting on socks always cost me 20 seconds. For me it is still the right choice.
What would you do differently?:

Choose a spot on the lake side
Run
  • 43m 53s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a very good run for me the additional run volume and speed training is paying off and there is still more speed to be had.Passed lost of people including one 30 something year old guy in the chute. This did not help my stats but, well, you know this is racing after all.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing great run for me. Continue to work hard at volume and speed
Post race
Warm down:

Took a knee at the closest shade tent for 2-3 minutes. Drank water, Looked at the love of my life and #1 fan Gina, she asked if I was alright, I smiled the best I could and answered Great race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was 2 1/2 min. faster than my first oly race with a poor swim. This was just a bad swim day. Next time will be better.

Event comments:

The water was murky, The bike drink station was a ghost town, Don't let this sway your decision to do this race.
