Swim
Comments: Any race where I can walk the swim is good for me. But seriously I need some swims in water over my head. What would you do differently?: Swim more. How many times can I say this and not do it? Transition 1
Comments: The results don't break out transition time so this is a guesstimate. What would you do differently?: Bring an umbrella because everything was soaked! But seriously my transitions have to get better. I am losing some serious time. Bike
Comments: I lost about 5 minutes trying to fix my front wheel on the course. It was rubbing against the brake. After that I was cruising around 22 mph for 1/2 of the course until my legs gave out at the end. What would you do differently?: Get a tuneup. Jesus, why am I so forgetful of these things. I need to get out on the road because nothing compares to that when training. Transition 2
Comments: Another estimate. They combined T1 and T2 times into the bike part. What would you do differently?: I NEED to practice my transitions! Run
Comments: My legs were toast but I only walked a few times to catch my breath. I am happy that I was under 10 min pace because I felt slow. One of the volunteers actually got a little brain freeze and almost told me the wrong direction to go to. That really messed up any chances of a PR in this one! (SARCASM) What would you do differently?: More bricks. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some Gatorade. Took a picture with my Team Marathon Bar gear.Got my bike and walked to the parking lot. I didn't see any food or drink area though we had a ticket on our number bib. What limited your ability to perform faster: My attitude. I thought I was doing okay but apparently finishing in the bottom 1/3 is not a good performance!! Event comments: I like RAM but they really dropped the ball on this one. Yes it rained but really, no friggin water stations on the run course! And no medal at the end. (Just kidding that is no big deal) The swim course was definitely smaller than advertised which they should have announced. And they had no announcements of waves, just some guy shouting out to the hundreds of people gathered. This is funny story. NOW. I asked someone at the information booth if there was a Gear Check. The girl said, "Yes. It is in the transition area. By your bike!" Thanks wise ass!!! But now it is kinda funny!!! Last updated: 2010-06-15 12:00 AM

I tried everything in my depressed mind to get out of this race but it would not happen or rather, it did happen. I woke up around 4:15 and laid there trying to come up with an excuse not to race. I felt sick (which was true), I was tired (true but not too tired), I was depressed (true). Thinking of what fellow BT'ers said and my wife telling me I had to do it, I got up reluctantly. It was dark and dreary out. And raining. Bad. With lightning. But I trudged along. Banana, two mini bagels and a diet Coke were my elixir!
I actually stretched and went for a little dip to see if the sleeveless wetsuit was the right move in Lake Michigan. It was! And Teddy was happy. This is the first I wore the wetsuit and it make my hips rise like a freshly baked loaf of bread!
