Pre-race routine:

Early up, had peanut butter toast and a cliff bar with coffee, gatorade and some water.
Event warmup:

None, really didn't warm up at all besides a quick jog on the beach.

Comments:

Felt good for my first open water swim, waves weren't too bad and the staggered start helped keep it pretty clean going out, I stayed on the outside of the group which caused me to swim a little longer than I needed to.
What would you do differently?:

Practice open water swimming, and don't worry about running into people, just get in and go as fast as possible at the start to get into some open area instead of trying to swim around.

Should have practiced this a good bit more, I felt like I was moving at a decent clip, but also like I didn't know what I was doing so was acting a little frantic.

Practice transitioning, jumping on bike and clipping in on the go.

Felt pretty good for me as a new cyclist, I actually passed a few people, still got passed by a lot of people, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
What would you do differently?:

Get a bike sooner, and spend a lot more time on it.

Took me awhile to get my speed up on the run, the first two miles were rough, but I really picked it up after the turnaround. I had plenty of energy at first, but I just hadn't done enough brick workouts to run fast immediately off of the bike.
What would you do differently?:

More brick workouts before the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I got a lot of time I can gain on the bike

Event comments:

I specifically picked this race as my first a number of months back due to the destination. The course was fantastic, no hills which is good for a first timer, and good food/bushwackers after. Also, I think the coffee cup awards stating place were really cool awards.
