Overall Rank = 53/258
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 16/45
Pre-race routine:

Nothing new...up at about 6:30. Drank a bottle of gatorade. At 2 PB and raspberry jam sandwiches 2 hours before the swim start.
Swim
  • 28m 36s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not a good swim. I felt like a fish out of water...in the water. I guess it was expected given that I was only in the pool about 6 times in the 2 months before the race.

I'm normally out in front of more of the pack at the start. This time, however, I was in the midst of more arms, legs, and bodies than I am used to. It took 750 meters before I finally felt comfortable and wasn't wasting a ton of energy.

The water was very cold. Foot numbingly cold...at about 10km of the bike my feet started to get their feeling back...i started feeling my shoe insole was actually folder over in my shoe. :)
What would you do differently?:

More training would have helped. :P
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

There were no specific transition times and I didn't hit my lap button on my watch to track it. It was relatively quick.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 1s
  • 40 kms
  • 32.43 km/hr
Comments:

My seat came loose on the ride so my position was a bit off. That could have been a factor in the slower ride than expected, but it was probably more due to a lack of training.

Hey, I didn't crash! But some poor soul crashed near the same spot as I did last year.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. :P
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 53m 28s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 21s  min/km
Comments:

Running was never my strong suit. Given the limited training I put in, this time was as expected. I actually passed a couple people this time! Normally it's a constant stream of people going by me. :)
What would you do differently?:

Train more. :P
Post race
Warm down:

Walking back the car. Light stretching. Walking throughout the rest of the day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited training and no speed work in the training that I did do.

Event comments:

There were more Olympic participants in the race this year and the organizers did a great job of managing them and making necessary changes to some small logistical issues from last year. The organizers were especially helpful to me in getting my into one of the unused "team" spots when the individual spots sold out. Kudos to them!!
