Swim
Comments: I started the swim in the back and to the side. Being the first time, I thought it to be a good strategy. I did pass a few people on the swim, which was very encouraging. I felt relaxed & just enjoyed it. What would you do differently?: I would practice sighting and/or bi-lateral breathing more. Transition 1
Comments: There was an uphill run from the water to T1. It was grassy & soft and probably about 100 yards (length of a football feild maybe). I walked most of this trying to keep my heartrate down before getting on the bike. I had trouble getting my socks on- but I took my time and didn't get flustered about it. Ate a CarbBoom and off I went. What would you do differently?: Probably do different socks- thinner. I can't imaging riding without gloves- but that also took some time. Bike
Comments: The bike segment felt great. I passed several people, which was fun & encouraging. I was nervous about all the USAT rules. But once I got out there, I found them to be very fun. What would you do differently?: Probably just train more on hills Transition 2
Comments: When I got into T2 I found that I had no room for my bike as others had kind of hogged the space and (understandebly)just thrown their bikes up on the rack. I squeezed mine in hoping not to scratch it and went on. It took extra time on my shoes cause I hadn't prepared them after washing & relacing. I grabbed my visor & sunglasses and off I went. OOOooops!! I ran down the transition area instead of out the run shoot...back I went and then I got it. I felt like a little mouse in a maze!! What would you do differently?: Have my shoes ready & pay attention. Run
Comments: Well- I knew this would be the most difficult segment for me. And boy howdy was it. While I had completed 2 5K's before the race in a (good) time for me (11:30 pace) both were flat races. I hadn't trained on hills AT ALL. Not walking them or running them. So the hill was very challenging. I just kept a smile on my face and did the best I could. What would you do differently?: I would train more on hill & just do more running period. Post race
Warm down: A few orange segment & some water and my two year old. We walked around the park and loosened up some and then ate some of the food they catered in. Pasta, chicken & chips & water. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight and lack of running experience. Event comments: This race was very well organized and upbeat. This was the 4th year for it and it has grown exponentially from approximately 50 racers the first year- 100 racers the second year- 172 racers the third year & 230 this year. I was told by someone that this was the most difficult Tri in the area but the organization & scenery make it worthwhile!! Last updated: 2006-01-24 12:00 AM

Up early - a cup of coffee and down the race area. Bagle w/ peanut butter & cream cheese about 2 hours before the race started. Set up transition area and then just hung out & watched others come in and get set and just enjoyed the silent excitement and anticipation of my first race.
