Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30A. Loaded up car and out the door. Slimfast for breakfast. Drove from kc to topeka. Set up transition then waited. Caffeine 45 min out from start. Wetsuit on 30 min out.

Started slowly and didn't pik-up at all. Couldn't seem to find a pair of feet to draft. Got a little of course a few times as well.
What would you do differently?:

Draft. Increase pace.

Way too slow. Pace had crazy ups and downs. Took in 1 aero bottle of accelerade and a water bottle.

Pace myself.

Shoes on took a while. number belt was on top of shes with sweat band, need to put it under them.
What would you do differently?:

Pull tabs on shoes. Number belt under shoes so shoes on then grab belt and sweat band to put on as I run.

Comments:

Slower then expected. Could feel blisters start in first lap. They were wicked. Hammer drink grabbed on way out of transition got to me. Should have grabbed the gel.
What would you do differently?:

Grease my shoes. Concentrate on foot turn over. Avoid hammer drink in favor of gels.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing. Wind and rain rushed in and I rushed to pack up. Had 3 honey milks for recovery. They were great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gear setup. Lack of race plan.

Event comments:

Overall a good race. Lots of changes though. 6.5mi run became a 6.9mi run. 3 age groups combined into one(10-24) which left me off the podium even though website and prerace email said 20-24 was its own AG. Despite the changes it was another great Ultramax event.
