Swim
Comments: This was by far the worst swim EVER for me. The water was so cloudy, that it was claustrophobic at the beginning. I was actually on the edge of quitting at the beginning. I totally forgot ALL stroke mechanics, and was just flailing around at first, and it totally wiped me out. I finally fell in to the groove, but was exhausted. As an aside, I love fish, they are great on a platter, steamed with some lemon juice and butter sprinkled on top. But not fish water. I can still smell fish as I write this. That was the most foul tasting water that I have come across in a while. What would you do differently?: Practice in a lake, where visibility is very limited. And then practice some more. Transition 1
Comments: Note to self: unzip calf zippers before trying to get the suit off of your legs. I had to pull the suit back up to get to the zippers before I could get it off. After getting the suit off everything went very smooth. One thing I did which really helped, was I brought a bucket. Took a 5 gallon bucket and cut off everything but the bottom 5 inches. I used that to was my feet off before I put on my shoes. It got rid of all the fine pebbles that I picked up in the transition area. What would you do differently?: see above Bike
Comments: Threw my chain just before the end. It was my fault, I was in the big chiain ring and was shifting up and basically twisted the chain off of the chain ring. Aside from that, I had a great ride. What would you do differently?: Do some more riding to get my overall speed up. I know that will come in time with just riding. Transition 2
Comments: There was a turn and a short downhill ride to the dismount line. You cannot see the dismount point until you are just about on top of it. As it turned out, there was about 5 of us tied up at the dimount point. Someone was taking their sweet time getting past the timing line and it was causing a bottleneck. So there was no riding with feet on top of shoes, jumping off of bike, etc. It was more like a slide to a stop before taking out everyone in front of you stop. There was also a long run around the transition area to th bike run exit. You basically had a 100 yard sprint just to get out of the transition area What would you do differently?: Nothing at all. Run
Comments: Nice run. Not much else to say about the run. Some of the neighbors had their sprinklers on for us so we could cool off. What would you do differently?: Hill work. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a good 20 minutes to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: The swim. I need to repeat that to get in my thick skull, the swim. Event comments: Really fun race. My only complaint was that I wished they gave us some room at the finsh line to slow down from the run, before they were hounding us for the timing chips. For Breakfast, I had a Slimfast shake, peanutbutter and jelly sandwich, and a blueberry bagel. I ate too light on my last race, and I paid for it with cramps. This was right on.
Nice light jog, with plenty of walking back and forth between the transition and the port-a-jon to rid the excess water.
