Sunny
Total Time = 1h 02m 34s
Overall Rank = 127/209
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 9/12
Pre-race routine:

Recovery from the 1 mile race.
Event warmup:

Knew the course from the previous day's clinic and my earlier 1 mile race.
Swim
  • 1h 02m 34s
  • 3520 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Better tempo and race than the 1 mile. Began to feel correct rhythm and breathing. Enjoyed it much more. No negative thinking. Focused on long arm strokes and smooth kicking. Got passed by the 1st wave on their 2nd loop- was like Shamu and Jaws were flying by. Great chance to pick up a little bit of a draft. Stayed on course better. Rounded buoys wider, which saved me from any contact with another swimmer. Had to pee the last 3/4 mile. Bad. And couldn't make myself go in the wetsuit. At least that made me think of something else, instead of the distance. Really wanted to break 1 hour- it's possible. Need to kick harder to make the lower body more efficient.
What would you do differently?:

Only swim the 2 mile race. The 1 mile before was too much in one day. Next year, there's going to be a 5K swim on Saturday...so I'll participate in that and the 2 mile on Sunday. Have a race plan/pace/strategy.
Post race
Warm down:

Refuled, rehydrated, stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too hot in the longsleeves. Short-sleeves would've been much better.

Event comments:

Again, well organized by Reston Masters. Just how a swim event/meet should be run. Good food, fast posting of finish times. Will be back next year.
