Age Group Rank = 5/11
Pre-race routine:

Got body marked and nabbed my chip.
Event warmup:

Racked my bike and hung around looking for folks I knew. Eventually ran into Birkie. It's always good to see him. I still can't believe he's doing IM Canada and Moo within two weeks of each other. If anyone can do it, he can.
Swim
  • 09m 11s
  • 528 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a decent swim for me. I pushed the pace a bit and navigated well. Sorry to the couple of people from the prior wave that were breast stroking that I ran over.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little more aggressively?
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Bike
  • 31m 14s
  • 10.8 miles
  • 20.75 mile/hr
Comments:

First part of the course is on a windy road out of the resort and is a bit crowded. It's flat to uphill into the wind. Then a bit down, then a loooong (2 mi) gradual uphill then about 3 mi of downhill and rollers to the finish. 1/3 of a mile is a windy, narrow road to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Push the pace a bit harder on the gradual uphill.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Run
  • 22m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I hit this about as hard as I could...or so I thought. I didn't see anyone in my AG so I figured I was so far behind I couldn't catch 'em. About mi 2.5 I had a guy with a 47 on his leg pass me, so I picked up the pace in pursuit. He drug me along to the finish, but in the end I couldn't catch him. Turns out he was runner in a relay. Thanks buddy!

What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I went about as hard as I could
Post race
Warm down:

Got a cold shower from a guy with a garden hose, nabbed some water, coke and tato chips.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running IM CdA a couple weeks ago probably took it's toll on me, but I'm not really sure. I'd have liked to pushed the bike a bit harder, but am still pleased with my performance.

Event comments:

This is a top notch event. Sugar Lake lodge is beautiful and so is the lake.
