Swim
Comments: Way too many idiots in the water. I am not a expert but this small course was the most physically abusive course I have swam. I got swam over, hit, kicked, pushed, grabbed, and harassed (by one female who I think was using me as a personal guide around the course who kept hitting me in the head...id swim away from her and she would find me!) I finally did the "When in Rome.." mentality and swam over /through a few people and found some open water. Actually almost lost my timing chip when a swimmer grabbed my ankle to pull me back! Had to tread water and re Velcro the strap!!! What would you do differently?: Use my own timing chip strap and know it wont fall off so no need to stop to check. also get new goggles as mine are scratched bad. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was slow. Crowded transition. Had to wait to run around some as I went down the tight channels of the trans. points. Suit got stuck on heals even though i put on a boat load of suit juice. Slow getting socks on and into shoes. Just had to take a breath as i was getting frustrated. Went to grab my bike and knocked over the bar holding all the bikes. ONE nice volunteer helped me and told me to go and that he would fix it. Bless him! At mount point, which was really away from the exit of transition, i COULD NOT get my dang shoes into my SPD clips. Finally after about 300m i locked them in... i was super frustrated by this point...but still happy to be racing! What would you do differently?: Practice my transition more. Bike
Comments: Hard ride for me. Hills killed me. It is 16.1 mile course. Not 15. Caught a flat at the end of the course, and when I say end, I mean just as I dismounted...so i got super lucky. What would you do differently?: Tune up bike prior to race..... Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. A little slow tying shoes. What would you do differently?: Get zip laces. Run
Comments: My calfs were burning! Uphill course was tough! Downhill was not all that down until about last 3/4 of a mile. Others were too steep to really run, had to "leg brake" to avoid out of control run or a fall. Finished strong. What would you do differently?: Run faster...LOL! Post race
Warm down: Water, bagel, bananna, streching, and walk back to transion to change clothes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Have to say it was the hills. They killed me. Event comments: Good and challenging race. Last updated: 2010-07-12 12:00 AM

Woke up and woke up the fiancé. She was going to her first event. She was tired but excited. Had my mandatory cup of coffee to wake up, get started, and to help in the morning constitutional...which came later. Headed out and found a BP to buy my sport Gatorade bottle (which fits exactly in my water bottle holder on my bike) and have the morning constitutional. Stomach was upset for some reason...knew I might have to go again... But progressed to find my Gatorade. Well they didn’t have the bottle with the sport top which I needed! My routine was in danger! I relaxed and got a sport bottle of water...what can you do?
Got to the event, and went to set up transition...here is where i got crabby. As this was my 5th event ever, it was my first with individual marked bike spaces/transition points. I didn’t know any better so I found my wave and just found a good spot and racked my bike. Well an older woman, who I think was trying to be nice but wasn’t, basically told me to move my bike out of her spot and "you are down there further" pointing was not appreciated. So I moved and found my number. I then racked my bike like I have done in the past, front under bar, hang on seat so back tire is over my stuff in transition. Only to be told, again, that I was wrong and the A$$ hole of a guy who I was in his spot was really being a smart A$$ as he told me how to "correctly" rack my bike. Now as stated before, this is not my first event though I am new to the sport (3 year veteran), but...Really? Anyway bit my tongue, and finished setting up transition, had to go to the pot-o-john (usually go before the race but remember the stomach issue?) so did my business, and got the wet suit on and went out to find my Fiancé. Stretched, found my wave and then...Waited, and waited, and waited. I was in Wave 22. There was actually a couple of racers who FINISHED before my wave stated. Total wait time (including yet another trip to the pot-o-john) 1 hour 48 minutes!!!! Further, one of the most rudest triathlons i have been to. People, to me, just didn’t seem to nice....
