Comments:

I am not a swimmer. However, I place my self right in front in my wave knowing there are a lot of non swimmers (even more than me) in this race and I didn't want to get stuck behind anyone. I don't know though if the distance was true. I think they are notorious for shortening the course. However, we were all racing the same course and the woman with the number 1 swim time was 8:19, so that being said this was the fastest pace I have ever swum.

Longish run from the swim exit to transition.
Bike
  • 25m 41s
  • 9.5 miles
  • 22.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Ok, my cyclometer said 8.22 and 19.4 mph for the same amount of time. Their official results had me at 19.8 mph so my guess is that the course was short. No surprises here.

There was a bit of a head wind headed out and my legs were really tired (I have been training for a HIM), but I felt much better on the turnaround and really picked up speed. I probably could have gone a mile or two fast for avg. speed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Run

  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Last year the course was short, I am sure of it and everyone was talking about it. This year they changed the run course and I think it was close to being a full 5k, but I think it still came up short as they have me officially with an 8:32 pace. I just ran a 5k two weeks ago with NYRR and my avg pace was 8:50, so there you go. Not that it would be incoceivable to run an 8:32, but based on my official time and what the pace shows here and what they have me down for...yeah, not a true 5K.

That said, I passed a ton of people and was passed twice by two women who I would not be able to catch. A third woman passed me with about a quarter mile to go, but I was having none of that. I passed her back and high tailed it to the finish so she wouldn't be able to catch me back. She actually thanked me after the race for forcing her to push herself to keep up with me. That is why I like this race; people are nice.

Event comments:

This was the second year I did this race. I love that it is very inclusive of all types of 'athletes', I also like that it is women only. That said, I don't like that the course is always so off. I don't know if that is a product of the race site or the coordinators of the event. I know this can happen, but ALL three events? Two years in a row? I think this was my last year.
