Pre-race routine:

N/A
Event warmup:

Rode my bike from the hotel to transition - about 2 miles
Swim
  • 32m 15s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was surprised how fast we caught up to the group ahead of us. Sighting was an issue coming in with the sun and dodging swimmers from earlier waves.
What would you do differently?:

Get younger to start in an earlier wave.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

very short run to T1.
Bike
  • 2h 38m 52s
  • 57 miles
  • 21.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was going phenominal until a mechanical derailed my aspirations for an approximatation of 3-5 minutes. My chain got stuck from a cross chain gear chain going up a hill after an aid station at around 38 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Lengthen my chain.
Changed my bike fit earlier in the week and had some muscle issues from the new position just from lack of riding in that position.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Run
  • 1h 48m 39s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Really felt the heat. Was looking for a 1:40 run time and knew very early on this would not be the case. Had stomach issues until about 9 miles. Recovered well and left the group that I was running with for the last 4 miles. Finished 2-4 minutes faster than those in the group.
What would you do differently?:

A little less in the gut when starting the run.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mechanical and heat

Event comments:

Jeff Henderson does an incredible job at the Musselman. This was my third time at the event and it is first rate. I would reccomend anyone to put this race on their calendar.
