Swim
Comments: TT start - hit the water, swam easy to the last buoy on our left, then made a straight line for last buoy on the right, saved a lot of time doing this as I saw others swimming a 90 degree turn, that there was no need for. Took the first real turn wide, next one I took tight and then stayed on the yellow rope coming in - bumped a few people here and there but an uneventful swim. Swim was short by a bit - maybe as much as 3 minutes. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Moved quickly here, everything went as well as it could have. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Started off well - took the hills easy, found my groove and just stuck with it. HR was low, watts were low and avg speed was only 22ish. At mile 15 I realized this was all I had and there wasn't much I could do about it so I just settled in and kept the ride steady. The bike was short by almost 2 miles. Quite a few newbies and TNTers out there who just hung by the yellow line instead of riding to the right. So, there was quite a bit of 'on your left' going on. What would you do differently?: More rest before the race Transition 2
Comments: Quick and easy, transitions were very good today. Its second nature at this point. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Started out very easy to see if my legs would come around. Mile 1 was 7:01, mile 2 was 7:00, mile 3 was 6:57 - so pretty much training pace for me on this day. On the way back I was passed by a guy who was running sub 6:00 and I tried to keep him within sight and my right calf knotted on a down hill and I had to back way off and just cruise the rest of the run. Top 3 AG was 4:30 away from where I finished (2:09:47) so I don't feel too disappointed in my performance. I definitely needed more rest going into the race. Legs were not feeling spry at all. What would you do differently?: nothing on race day - managed all the problems the best I could. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with the D3 crew - met the BT crowd - what a nice bunch of guys! What limited your ability to perform faster: Rest Event comments: Great race - despite swim and bike being short. We had Amy pick up a 3rd in the women's 40-44 and Martina who picked up 3rd in the 25-29. Great race, well organized and after the race was over, I got to see Graceland! I had a great weekend with the entire D3 crew - about 15 of us - going out to eat - meeting up with the BT crew - and hitting Beale St on Sunday night. Looking forward to doing it again sometime! Loaded car at hotel - 5 bikes/10 wheels/5 racers/2 support crew.
Biked about 12' - up the first few hills of the bike so I knew what gearing to start in and what to expect. Ran about 15', did run drills, stretched.
