Swim
Comments: i loved the swim course - i practiced a bit but when the swim actually started i panicked again (see previous races) - hate that. Had trouble breathing even if i did the breast stroke or swam on my back. HAD TO CALM my heart rate down - I have MVP so my h/r was spiking and it freaked me. After about 3 minutes, i got into a rhythm and it was great. What would you do differently?: must practice the heart rate spiking at the beginning of races. I hate the banging and crashing around, but all in all i swam great after the first few minute of panic. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition, i marked things well for myself. (thanks to my husband)and didnt lose anything. The bikes were really close together and so i kept things in the bag. It was ok. What would you do differently?: nothing went well. i was so mad at my shitty swim but the transition was good Bike
Comments: i actually did better than i thought - but i hated this ride it was hilly and windy. There were not a lot of spectators either. I was surprised at the hydration station near the turn...seemed like an accident waiting to happen. What would you do differently?: I need more hill training. Transition 2
Comments: i was mad at myself for the crappy swim and ride. I didnt run out - i ate some shot blocks, got my gear, could have been faster What would you do differently?: let go of the past legs and focus on the current transition. Run
Comments: Did not enjoy the run very much cause it was really hot and not enough hydration. They did not provide any gatorade only warm water...not enough sprinklers. Too many walkers not keeping to the right of this very narrow path What would you do differently?: run harder and hydrate more during the bike. Post race
Warm down: sat in the shade and stretched out - i was so inspired by all the cancer survivors and women around me. What limited your ability to perform faster: the heat and lack of focus and training. Event comments: i did not like this race - the course is challenging and fun but the logistics and coordination was horrible. First - when i got to the packet pick up, they ran out of goodie bags and small shirts (even tho i ordered one) the expo was lame - no gear. Even the body marker was bad. My 6 and 4 were horrible. The poles for the transition area were poorly marked. The volunteers didnt seem to know much. Day of - the parking is far away and the traffic to get into the parking lot was horrible. 20 mins just to get into the lot. The shuttle bus was long and slow - good thing we got there 1hr early. I felt bad for those that were late. not enough potties - and the were poorly situated - in spots where people need to get by, near transition entrance etc. getting around was hard cause all the pathways were either blocked or for competitors only so the spectators had a hard time getting around. leaving was a night mare. They set up a reunite area that of course ended up getting blocked off by the police. So many athletes were waiting for the drivers in this area and no one came. The shuttle line up was over 1 hour long. it was a mess Poorly organized, horrible hydration, but the course is nice. Danskin needs to learn how to get more organized. stress stress and more stress. The event was poorly organized with the parking and shuttle etc. We had to get there really early and the traffic was a nightmare...so i stressed a lot. I had on my Italy shirt for the World Cup and talked mainly about soccer with husband to distract me.
i stretched while waiting for my wave to start - and did a lot of complaining....lol or so my husband says - i was afraid of the water temperature, the hilly bike ride, the long potty line ups etc. But after i got past the complaining, i started stretching and finally got into it.
