Run
Comments: I do this race every year. Usually I train for it and get a PR, but this year was an exception. I sprained my ankle in early May, so I did not train much in May and June. During this race my legs felt fatigued even though my cardiovascular system was fine. After the first 5K I knew my chances of a good time were gone, so I treated it as a hard training session and decided not to redline chasing some impossible time. After 8 miles I picked it up to run the last mile fast. Picked off many of the people that passed me late in the race. After the race I still felt good and kept running around. I don't know why people run these things hard. It's much more fun not to. Miles splits: 1: 6:18 2: 6:35 3: 6:40 4: 6:56 5: 6:00 6: 6:36 7: 7:12 (not sure how that happened) 8: 6:39 9: 6:25 5K splits: 5K: 20:18 10K: 40:38 15K: 1:01:16 What would you do differently?: Nothing. I have done this race 7 or 8 times now. I was bound to have an off year eventually. Post race
Warm down: Ran around a little and then hit the beer truck. All the suckers who ran fast were slower than me getting to the beer :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training Event comments: This year it gets a 4, because they ran out of everything both at the expo and at the post-race party. I was pissed off that people were running away with cases of food early so that others got none. Runners are the most greedy cheapskate people there are and the race directors should know this and prepare for it. They also built an addition to the Saranac brewery during this past year, so there is now much less space at the post-race party. I don't think this race can grow anymore because of this, and it should probably be reduced back to 10,000 max. Last updated: 2010-07-24 12:00 AM
