Swim
Comments: Our wave was HUGE...so I decided to go to the front. WHAT? This time it worked out for me. Kinda got pinched in the first 25 yards, but got out of the mess pretty quickly. Water was clear enough to see hands and feet, yet murky enough to not see what was below me....ie big muskies or water snakes. Quite proud of my cornering skills for this race, not too tight and not too far off course. I did swim a few extra yard on the way back to shore though. Not sure how that happened. Went too far to the left and then over corrected too far to the right. Happy to say I got to actually swim again. Guess I am finally (after three years of racing) getting a bit use to keeping my head in the water. What would you do differently?: Besides the obvious, I really don't know. Happy with this swim. Did make a newbie mistake prior to the start....had my goggles on upside down...DUH. First of a few errors today..... Transition 1
Comments: Comdey of errors. After razzing Amyjo about worrying about where her bike was, I couldn't find mine. Go figure. Finally found it, and couldn't get my suit off. This bummed me out cuz I wanted a good lead on Amyjo cuz I knew she'd catch me on the bike. By the time I got my suit off she was right next to me. Socks and shoes on, helmet buckled and off I went. What would you do differently?: Not jabber jaw with good friends in T1. Bike
Comments: I knew I had a small lead on Amyjo so I really had to pound it. I knew she was behind and would be wheeling up at any time, so that was a great motivator. She caught me at the turn around, gave me some sob story that she dropped her water bottle right out of transition. Being the sap that I am I offered her some of my gatorade. Handing that off while going 18 mph proved to be no small feat. Luckily, it went off without a hitch. After her little sip, she said good by and left me in the dust....or she thought......bwaaaahahahahahahah. I kept her in my sight (and that was tough) so as not to give her too much of a lead on the run..... What would you do differently?: Wear my tri shorts....my bum was a bit sore. Transition 2
Comments: Oops, guess what I did in T2....while chatting with Amyjo (yep, I made it before she left)I took my shoes off and since I wasn't paying attention and my brain was telling me my socks were drenched, I took my socks off too. What, I need those to run!!! Well, too late, so I laced up sans socks, grabbed my visor, race belt and garmin and ran out on a sleeping left foot. What would you do differently?: not talk in transition. But hey, it's all about fun, right. I would like to say that I said goodbye to Amy on my way out of T1 and she just took off without word one out of T2. Run
Comments: Feet felt like bricks today. They loosened up after the hill right at the start. Set my sights on finding Amyjo, I knew she was about a minute ahead of me. Found her at the first water station. She stopped for water so I did too.....played a little cat and mouse, heehehhehhehhehheee. Snuck up on her at the airport strip. Now I was feeling torn here....this is her race afterall so I offered to pace her. "oh no, you go on" she said. So I did, thinking, "well she had no problem passing my on the bike, so why shouldn't I feel okay running ahead." I felt great. What would you do differently?: While the no socks thing didn't bug me whilst running, I wish I would have had a dry pair cuz now I have a boo boo on the back of my ankle. Post race
Warm down: Found our results, had a cute little bag lunch and waited for awards. Amyjo and I took 6th & 7th....only 3' off the 1st place for our AG. Very happy with my results. What limited your ability to perform faster: Too much jibber jabbing in transitions. Hey, you gotta have fun though and I still did well. Event comments: With the exception of people riding 4 across, I have no complaints with this race. Great tri. Last updated: 2010-07-28 12:00 AM

Slept at the Hauge B&B, out for Mexican dinner and a beer, back to B&B for a glass of wine and bed by 10:30. Slept on the most comfy firm/pillow top mattress and woke up for a waffle with peanut butter. Nothing better. Got to the race site (about 15' away)around 7 and set up transition. Felt the water to decide on wetsuit or not. Went with wetsuit cuz I wasn't sure the tank I was wearing would create drag in the water. Oh and I also heard there was a muskie or copperhead the size of a small child out there.....eeeesh.
Getting my wetsuit on. I seriously need to lose an inch or two cuz I don't remember it being soooo tight last year.
