Comments:

Started about 2/3 of the way back. Felt I did OK finding my way, but it was pretty windy and choppy on the way out so I wound up doing some breast stroke to catch my breath. Coming back was much better, and I passed a person or two, but others passed me. I felt OK with it, but it was actually slightly slower than last year by about a minute. fastest swimmer in my age group did it in 15:15, though I actually beat her overall. Swam without a wetsuit and without a bra, which was a good choice. did not have the usual issues w/ breathing.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice more open water swimming. Be able to deal with chop better. Consider starting up towards the front of the pack so I don't have to fight to find my way so much.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

7 out of 15. Fastest was Terry Healy in 55 seconds. Took time to dry off and put socks on. Had some water to drink. Did not eat.
What would you do differently?:

consider no socks and clipping shoes to the bike. Would need to practice getting going, but it would shave lots of time off. Also, don't worry about drying off.

Comments:

Felt great. Passed a lot of people, passed by some, mostly men and a few women younger than me. Road was a little rough in spots.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

8 out of 15.
Run
  • 33m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt fine running, just did it slow. Passed by a lot of people, though I passed a few. Probably could have done it a bit faster. Fastest woman in my age group did it in 25:51 (8:20 pace).
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretching

Event comments:

Great race. Well organized with the number of competitors capped so it's a great size. 10 minutes between swim waves means very little passing by later groups. Good food at the end. Free ice cream!
